    The "new" Cliff Zwickey BH

Anybody seen any of these yet? Your thoughts?

Last I knew it would be illegal to use in Texas, because of the barbs.

Other than that - looks like a good head.

      Larry,

I just looked through the regs at the TPWD, and could not find anything about barbed broadheads, so maybe they are legal now.

Maybe someone else will chime in with more info.

That's a good lookin head! I'd like to give them a try, but I'd have to figure out how to get that much weight up front to tune out first.

Yea, Rick, I had "heard" about barbed heads before but don't really understand what/ why they would be illegal. Why would the trailing ends be a bad thing? I shoot 200grns. up front now, so the 140gr glue on with a 75gr. adaptor would make them just right for my weight.

              Larry,

the reason I always heard was that in case of a marginal/bad hit, if not barbed the broadhead had more chance of coming out without inflicting more damage.

There used to be clear defined regulations at the TPWD, but I don't see them there now.
Could be they aren't illegal here anymore.

OK, just read through the 2011-2012 outdoor annual and it just gives the legal width/length and must be at least 2 blade. Says nothing as to shape or design. So does that mean these are legal? Think I will run down to the TPWD office in Temple tomorrow and ask them.

I thought 'barbed' referred to the heads like the VPA turkey head (forward facing barbs)

I'm trying to remember the reg - it was a measurement where if the trailing edges of the blades were more than a certain distance behind where they were connected to the ferrule, then they were considered barbed. I don't remember the measurement, but that zwicky would have definitely been considered barbed under those regs.

Now that there don't seem to be anything listed (reg wise) other than width, I assume just about anything that is at least 7/8" wide is legal.

Kinda like Larry's idea of talking to them about it before I committed myself.

Hey that's awesome. Can't wait ta hear what they say.

I figure with all of the new/different designs of broadheads, especially where mechanicals are concerned, they were heavily solicited to drop the reg.
Many of the mech heads could be considered barbed, but as we all know manufacturer's money talks loudest in this state.

Of course when you call you talk to the ladies up front, they are nice and try to be helpful. When I said I had a question about legal broadheads and she asked what they were "maybe I can answer them" I had the desire to say I bet you'll need to refer this to a warden. Any how I asked she said let get your name and number and have a warden call you. I asked what is considered a barrbed point, are they legal, and asked if stone points were legal? I know there is several guys on here that could answer the stone point question but I figured its a good one to challenge a wardens knowledge on.

I saw those same zwickey's on the internet today, and thought they sure looked good, but wondered about the barbed rear edge. I know a lot of states have now retracted the law on the barbs, but several have not. I'm interested to know how this plays out here in Texas.

No call back with an answer yet, I will post it as soon as I can when I get the answers from a warden.
