yeah it does .. harder to get consistent speed out of larger case .. all my sub loads , would it be 38 or 44 do better accuracy wise in special cases vs magnum .

same reason why sub 300blk do better than sub 308's

My taxidermist had an integrally suppressed Ruger 77/44. I shot it once with his handloads into a dump truck load of dirt. It sounded like a Daisy Red Ryder and you could hear the bullet hit the dirt. He killed many pigs with it. I think you are good to go, but as others have said, reload or find someone to reload for you. As I said, I have some .44 Special ammo I’ll make you a deal on.

          Here ya go, Glen.

I thought I had seen the Ruger #1 in .44Mag a little while back too. Think it was a speical run. But then, I may be confused, since I'm in GOF status.

anything subsonic is anemic! but heavy bullets still hit harder and penetrate deeper than light ones

its not real expensive to get started reloading with basic stuff,,, also some years back i found a load for the 44 mag and special using the same bullet and powder charge for the 44mag/spec, I think it was 700 x powder , you would be better off in the long run by using magnum brass because the special cases will leave a soot, lead /powder residue ring in the chamber making it harder to chamber magnum brass if you decide you want to and it can be difficult to clean it out if you shoot enough, also it is harder to find special brass and loaded ammo than magnum .....

there are several loads for 300 gr 44 magnum loads at less than 1000 fps and dropping down into the upper 700fps range,,, well below the speed of sound!
