May be acquiring a 44 special ruger bolt action rifle suppressed. I currently don’t hand load. My issue is finding heavy cast bullets in 44S that are subsonic. I see where I can buy 44M subsonic. I know in pistols I can shoot 44S in a 44M. I’m guessing the little xtra length would make it a negative in a bolt gun to shoot 44Mag. Trying to get ideas before I commit

If it is integrally suppressed. It was probably built by John Tibbits of John’s Guns. Should be chambered for .44 magnum. A friend of mine had one. Factory. .44 specials are loaded pretty weak due to the old guns chambered in that round. They will be hard to come by with the current ammo situation. Time to learn to reload.Last edited by M16; 02-20-2023, 05:47 AM.

If you plan on shooting 44 special with any regularity plan on getting setup to reload. Factory ammo will be weak and expensive unless you go with a boutique manufacturer, which will still be pricey.
If you do end up loading ammo, you might as well go with 44 mag and a 240/250 gr bullet at 1k fps.

I had one back when I had my farm. Any 44 special ammo will be sub sonic. I always thought it was a good ideal to stay with jacketed bullets as there is no way to clean the lead out of the suppressor.
I handloaded mine down to 1,000 fps in 44 mag brass with a 280 grain swift A frame bullet and finished off a ton of critters with it through the years. The sound of the bullet hitting a Red deer was louder than the gun going off
