    Donor Action input needed

So here we are again. I have a Rem 700 Left hand in 270. Its a stock CDL. I can't stand not tinkering with it, so after this season of use it will be getting a face lift. I know the easiest thing to do would be a 280 AI, but I do not have any brass or dies for it. Which isn't really a problem.

Buuuuuuttttttt I already have a lifetime supply of 300 Weatherby brass and dies. And I like to go fast and hit hard. Is it worth the trouble of having the bolt face opened up?

On a side note it will more than likely be a Remage because I like DIY. Unless someone wanted to trade me a Bighorn Origin ( left handed ) for the rifle

So keeping in mind I like going fast and also like heavy for caliber bullets what else could I turn this bad boy into? 6-06AI? 6.5-06AI? 300 WBY?

It’s not that bad to open one up. You’ll put an updated extractor in as well if you do that. Or you could just buy a bolt body before blueprinting and sell the one you have.

I didn't even think about buying a new bolt. If I did that I could do it all in house per say.

I’m not sure that action is long enough to go from 270 Win to 300 Wby.

Buy a PT&G magnum bolt. Much better construction and be done.

Now I must say remage barrels are hideous. Get one spun up right lol

Buy a new bolt. You’re spinning up a new barrel anyways so headspace won’t be an issue…. And don’t let these fellers talk smack about remmage, have yet for someone to see this rifle and comment about the “barrel nut”

Sell the Remington and buy a Savage model 10 long action . You can swap out barrels easily. You can swap out bolt heads easily too. And you can do all of it yourself.

I just did this, but being that its a LH gun (mine is too) don't go this route at the stock options for a LH savage aren't all that plentiful compared to the Rem 700

I have plenty of Savages but that limits my options to the stock I can use. I have about 6 DIY savages in the stable right now. I am slowly moving the new ones over to Remington so I can get the stocks I want.

agreed. I bought a Oryx chassis in right hand a week before they offered the lefties and had a machine shop mill out the bolt hand for me. It works perfectly. Bottom metal is another issue I have found with Savages.

Man I have a fast twist .277 barrel (octagonal McGowan 7.5 twist) just waiting for a lefty R700 action and stock... I want to play with heavies in the good ol 270win and keep a classic profile... if you interested in letting it go that'd help pay for a good action that you could prefit a barrel on! Just saying!

Listen grandpa. I’m not judging you for being drunk mid day. I’m judging you on what you said!
