I am looking at getting a new rifle built and leaning towards a 28 Nosler or 300WM. If you was to have one built, who would you choose and how would you build it?

TBHer Johnny Benchrest
Johnathan Stigall owns Crimson Accuracy in Cresson, Texas
He trained under one of the best benchrest GS’s in the country and builds an incredibly accurate rifle. Very affordable and a solid turnaround time when compared to the big name custom gun builders.
Johnny chambered a custom varmint/target shooting rifle for me on a Nesika action as I’ll post up pics this weekend.
Edit: forgot to add cartridge and components for the build
300 Win Mag … extremely versatile and you can find factory ammo at most sporting goods stores if in a bind.
Action: Kelbly ATLAS
Barrel: Lilja, Krieger, Bartlein, or whatever you prefer
Stock: Kelbly, Manners, McMillan or whatever stock YOU like
Bottom metal: I’d go with a traditional BDL floor plate as I don’t care for Detachable box magazines.
JP, PM me if you have questions or need help finding components. All the custom actions are first class. I’m loyal to Kelbly since they’ve taken care of me for 30 yrs.
I’ll reiterate, do your homework, call and speak directly to the GS, and build what YOU want.Last edited by Cajun Blake; 10-12-2022, 09:37 PM.

And I can also second the Kelbly Atlas. I love mine. Best bang for the buck action out right now in my opinion.

Without a doubt Johnny is your man to build it.
Regarding caliber, 28 Nosler is a beast but components are pricey and hard to find for premium brass. The 300 Win Mag is tried and true. Tons of components available and very reasonably priced. The only caveat I would throw in is has a custom reamer made to throat the 300 Win Mag properly. Figure out which bullets you want to shoot and have your reamer throated for those bullets. The biggest handicap to the 300WM and the only advantage the PRC has over it is a proper throat and barrel twist.
Kelbly’s Atlas Tactical is a great action.
I’m partial to AG Composites stocks these days.
Barrel choice is up to you. I would search places like Bugholes.com to find one in stock. Pick the contour and length and for a 300WM I’d go no faster than a 9 twist. You can shoot anything but the largest mono bullets with a 9 twist barrel. If you order a custom barrel be prepared to wait 9 months to 1 year.
I’d go DBL bottom metal but get the Hawkins M5 BDL in case you ever wanted to change to M5 DBM. Make sure your stock has an M5 inlet if you go this route.
Triggertech special or Diamond for your trigger.

Mr. Johnny is bringing an old McMillan Brothers built rifle back to life for me now. Single shot, right bolt left port McMillan Bros action and an old Tooley style stock. Waiting on a fancy paint job from the stock painting guy now.
OP, Mr. Johnny is good people and will take real good care of you. You can get all your components and send them to him or you can get it all from him. I like to get all my parts myself and send them to him. Check in stock inventory at Kreiger, Bartlein and Hawk Hill for barrels, another place to watch for components is Accurate Shooters forum classifieds.Last edited by Radar; 10-13-2022, 06:20 AM.
