with the conversion kits the most important thing is to make sure to get the option that will work with your current handguard.

Sounds like you should give a piston system a go as well. You might just be hangin up those big boy pants and bustin out the speedo if you do, who knows!!!

I run a Gas vent forward assist & GB charging handle on the M16, but both of these will just worsen the experience for a lefty...there is no real way to greatly reduce gas on a DI without getting a lefty upper.
The gas buster vents the gas to the extraction side so you may wanna search to see if they make one for lefty's. Sealing off your charging handle will help some as plenty of gas leaks there.
A good tail wind helps more than anything.

If it’s not locking back, a heavier buffer is just going to make it worse. You need to open up your gas block until it will lock back.
Gas blowback sucks, but it’s just part of shooting a suppressed AR. There are a few options that others have mentioned to help, but you are never going to get rid of it completely.
