I would think a bolt action, or maybe lever action would be a great trainer for a young un. I’m really fond of the Ruger American rimfires. They are fairly inexpensive too. Good shooters, with adjustable triggers.

That CZ is slick looking gun. I have two more boys behind him to buy for in the near future so might have to look into it.

I have 4 refurbished speed masters and field masters to pass down that my dad gave to me through the years. That’s why I wanted something to teach them on. I ended up with the savage like previously because it has a bolt and safety plus the Accu Trigger. And believe it has a 11.5 LOP. I will post a pic come Christmas morning of his excitement!

Not sure on the exact length of pull of the Scout, but it’s pretty short for small kids. The beauty of it is it’s the full sized 457 action, so you can build it as they grow into it. Tons of CZ 457 aftermarket support, so triggers, stocks, barrels, etc are easily available with many options. My 457 is my favorite rimfire I’ve owned so far. The Triggers are great from the factory, but with about 30 minutes and $5 you can have that thing smoke the Accutrigger. That Savage is still a great option though. Much better than the Crickett.

100% Perfect gun for the kids. Extremely accurate and it's a single shot making them take their time.

I guess I got lucky. I used the same beat up cricket on three kids as they got old enough. It was fine until I ran over it and just threw it away.

guess it is really x4 or x5 by now. (I originally said x2)

I bought the 452 scout when my kids were small. Bought a trainer for myself and extra mags. the scout can use the regular mags once you are ready to go past the 'Barney Fife" mode.

Buy a good gun to start with. 10/22 marlin 60 or any others mentioned. It can still be a single shot. By only loading 1 round in the gun per shot. If that is a concern.

I Started mine on a Savage Rascal, then a 10/22, and now plink with an S&W M&P15-22.

In hindsight I should have gone with the M&P15-22 from the beginning.
