    22 lr

Well it’s that time my kids 5th Christmas. Do I get the crickets or skip and do a 10-22? I will say I like the youth Henry.

If any one has a speed master let me know.

Can't go wrong with a marlin model 60

I am a fan of the 10/22 although I could see the point of a single shot or bolt action for the youth.

I know some of the Rugers have a stock you can change the length of pull with spacers. I'm sure the Ruger American bolt action has it. That would be the route I'd take so it could grow with them. Those crickets are a waste IMO.

The Cricket always seemed like A
Gimmick to me.. Get a real rifle even at

My son got his Ruger at 4-5 it was no problem.
Now he's got several, incl. Browning lever
Marlin, 17,and 22 his favorite is his
            H&K AR .22 it's a really fun rifle..

10/22 is a fav of mine too ..BUT kids need to learn gun safety/and making one shot count...so single shot /bolt/lever...

Savage Rascal is a pretty sweet gun for a youth. I started my daughter out with a Cricket but it was junk so I got her the Savage.

I started all mine with a cutdown marlin glenfield semi-auto
We loaded only 3 shots at a time.

Much later I Put the cutoff piece back on and over 50 yrs later I am still killing coons with it

A Henry Mini Bolt Youth is just about right for a youngster that young.

Kids grow up faster than you think. Get them an heirloom to hang on to for life. Maybe a nice Browning or a Little Henry

                            This!

I know you bought em already OP but I looked at every youth 22 available. And the 457 was the nicest I could find for a reasonable price.

This. I bought my granddaughter a cricket and it’s junk. No safety, if she doesn’t shoot I have to discharge it or try to let the plunger down. Rounds get suck in the chamber due to weak extractor.

Bought my grandson the Savage and it’s a much better gun for the money. Has an accutrigger and an actual safety.
