Ok. It was showing 9 twist on all bullet weights in the Nosler manual. That was all it was based on. Easy change.
Thanks
Definitely go 8 twist. I may even consider 7.5 twist to shoot the 156 Berger, 160 Matrix and the Hammer mono metal bullets.
They just introduced a new line called the Absolute Hammer and they are showing impressive results in terms of easy tunability and increased velocity of up to 200fps over the same weight class bullets. But they need a fast twist. Their 129 grain 6.5mm for example recommends a 7.5 twist.
I’m loading some now for my 6.5 Grendel in 109 grain and my wife’s 6.5x47 Lapua in 123 grain.
I’ve been shooting a 260ai for several years, been pleased with it! You made a good choice on going 260. I agree with Mike D, go with the 1:8 twist or even 1:7.5. I’d get 1-2boxes of lapua brass and your favorite bullet of choice. The brass should last 8-10 firings, especially if you’re not trying to really push it.
I think I saw you mentioned IMR4350, but there are others I’d probably look at as well.
Good, bad or ugly, she's getting a .260 Rem.
I also just ordered 4 boxes of 120gr Nosler BT ammo.
She can shoot that up (I'll probably shoot a box myself). I will reload on that Nosler brass.
I know that the round is a 1000 yard round, and the CR is very popular too, but she may do well to shoot the 3 boxes in a year.
I do appreciate all of the input, though.
I'm not building "someone's" dream gun. I'm building a hunting rifle (deer & hogs) for my daughter. She is pleased as punch, and I'll bet she will be more-so when the gun is finished.
Not to hijack my own thread, but what are the REASONS people think the 260 ammo won't be available in the future?
(Not interested in your gut feeling, but in reason).
