    Shooting stick? Bipod or tripod.

Been using a cheap primos monopod and looking to upgrade. Though I like it’s light weight, the monopod doesn’t cut it for rifle stability afield, and decided I need more points of contact on the ground.
Wondering what the GS uses, recommends or not, and pros/cons,
I don’t want to break the bank but needing an upgrade from a $40 monopod. Not too concerned about total weight but don’t want too bulky as I’ll be hauling them attached to my pack. Would not mind getting double use as a walking/stability stick for elevation changes of the terrain. Thanks in advance.

Tripod is rock steady in comparison. They all get the job done and are better than taking a free handed shot though.

Last season I recognized that I just couldn’t keep rifle and cross hairs as still on the target with just one point of contact on the ground as I needed to. Kind of like in shooting standing up compared to lying prone, etc.

Thanks for the responses so far.

^Yep. Get the tallest version. And get the Gen 2 if you can find one, rather than the newer Gen 3 model. The Gen 3 is a little heavier, and it whistles when the wind hits it just right. Gen 2 doesn't do that.

I just shot a pig last night using the Primos trigger bipod. Was in Colorado mule deer and elk hunting when my wife was trying to get on a mule deer and I could not get one leg to lock in. Ended up just trying to hold it while she shot. She missed. Got back to camp and taped the legs all the way out and use it like that ever since. Like you said works good as a trekking pole. The next one I buy will be a tripod and will not have an trigger to adjust length.

Coming from a person who has a bog pod tripod and small bipod, I used to be a bogpod snob and thought trigger sticks were always lame and gay. I have a short trigger stick for coyote hunting and tree stand work and have used my cousins trigger stick tripod. Trigger stick is the way to go for me. The bogpod style I had were the twist locks and they crapped out over the years from corrosion and now are kinda stuck at the height they are in. Bogpod is not a bad choice, good equipment but the height change of the trigger stick is a game changer to me. I’m sold on it

It’s all personal preference. My buddies and I do a lot of night time predator/hog hunting. All but one of us use the trigger sticks tripod. They’re pretty quiet, easily adjust, and mainly light weight.

Our other buddy has the bog pod tripod. He likes it, but his complaint is his is a good deal heavier. you’re already carrying a lot of weight with an AR with a full mag and night optic. Plus a call. Plus whatever other stuff you might think you need. The weight savings on your tripod is a big deal.

I’ll be checking both out whenever I can make it to do it in person. Thanks for all the input.
