    Which custom are the 120GMX?

Grendel is a hard round to make happy. Many manufacturers seem to not have figured out the secret sauce.

      Buy a better gun.

Mines a larue but it shoots the ELD M 1/2" at 100. Also has the box others. I don't load for it like my customs as it has a thermal on top but I've never had a bad batch of any Hornady Grendel ammo. I can't figure out how with commercial ammo today y'all would be getting those groups.

My PSA really likes the Alexander Arms loaded with the 120gn Nosler BT

I also have to disagree on the general reputation of the brand. I’ve had more Hornady factory loads outperform other brands than not (the superformance being the only exception, I hate that stuff). Maybe it’s a mental thing?? Like the guys that swear by core-lokts, that garbage won’t shoot in any weapon I own no matter the caliber.

            Sierracharlie out…

I was about to text you and tell you to help him out haha

              I only shoot 120 ELD-M handloads from
My grendel and have killed about 6 deer 2 coyotes and 23 hogs, most of those hogs have been at night using night vision they were any size from 50-250 +\- pounds. I’ve had great success with the eld.

I agree your accuracy sucks. Maybe double triple check everything for loose bolts, and get a good trigger that makes a huge difference.

All rifles have good triggers. Nothings loose because we can all go right back to any other ammo and shoot poker chips & quarters. It’s just been the Hornady Custom SST in all of the

Yeah then for some reason the barrels just don’t like the bullet shape or the powder charge. You could try hand loading them if you know anyone that loads.

                    All are 20” 1:8

If that makes a difference or not

So we have 4.... but 2 were so horrible (9” @100) were sent back and replaced with 12” @ 100!!!!

6 total guns from 3 manufacturers and NONE will shoot 123gr hornady SST’s. Mines the best @ just under 6”.... but as bad as 9”

                      .... BUT.

123gr Hornady BLACK ELD- match shoots 1 1/2”- ragged hole in all of them!

I know nothing as far as bullets and guns. Just seemed odd. All the web forums say SST is way to go.... but that’s probably coming from a tactical ninja that shot a turtle on time at 30 yards

Anyone had anything close to this happen or help me understand why it sucks so bad?

Note: Hornady has consistently been the worst ammo I’ve shot in any of my calibers... but it’s about the only available option
Don't sweat it....that's still in the gut shot zone

"123gr Hornady BLACK ELD- match shoots 1 1/2”- ragged hole in all of them!"

Amazing how many ignored this in the original post & just want to bash inexpensive guns.

Of course it would be nice to know why one round works great & another is really bad.

But at the end of the day, you know at least one round to keep buying and one to avoid.

I tend to buy the lower price guns/uppers too and have yet to find one that wouldn't shoot well, as in MOA or close to it. Sometimes you have to try several different options. I bet you'll find more that work well than work horrible out of these guns.

This is what I have had my daughter shoot this year and have had great results. It is a PSA 20in upper and is right under or at 1in groups an 100. I think it will do a little better the more I can shoot it.

Just shoot your deer and hogs with Hornady black, it does great, I have had 2" exit holes on a pile of critters

I would suggest trying some good ammo, something other than Hornady. A lot of their bullets now days are cheap copies of someone else's quality bullets. I have had nothing but poor accuracy from most Hornady bullets, unless it was some of their older stuff. I have tried Hornady SST in my 270 AR, the accuracy was crap, Sierra Game Kings shoot great in that gun. My 17 HMR makes horrible groups with any brand of ammo that use Hornady A-MAx bullets. But if I use CCI hollow points, I get great accuracy. If you read on many of the various groups, such as multiple of the 6.5 Grendel groups or groups for other calibers, that Hornady ammo is the most common for those calibers. You will find a lot of guys complaining about Hornaday ammo, primarily the bullet performance, poor accuracy and poor performace when it comes to reliably killing game.
