I also have to disagree on the general reputation of the brand. I’ve had more Hornady factory loads outperform other brands than not (the superformance being the only exception, I hate that stuff). Maybe it’s a mental thing?? Like the guys that swear by core-lokts, that garbage won’t shoot in any weapon I own no matter the caliber.

Hornady is all their preferred “box ammo”. I’m not brand specific cause I don’t shoot enough.

    My question is

What’s the difference in the bullets?

I know in the past Hornady subbed out some of their ammo loading. I'm thinking something is wrong with that ammo. Do you have a scale that can weigh each round?

My 12.5” Grendel shoots the SSTs sub-moa all day long at 100.

OP, you should send 'Raider4044' 5 of your bullets.

So we have 4.... but 2 were so horrible (9” @100) were sent back and replaced with 12” @ 100!!!!

6 total guns from 3 manufacturers and NONE will shoot 123gr hornady SST’s. Mines the best @ just under 6”.... but as bad as 9”

              .... BUT.

123gr Hornady BLACK ELD- match shoots 1 1/2”- ragged hole in all of them!

I know nothing as far as bullets and guns. Just seemed odd. All the web forums say SST is way to go.... but that’s probably coming from a tactical ninja that shot a turtle on time at 30 yards

Anyone had anything close to this happen or help me understand why it sucks so bad?

Note: Hornady has consistently been the worst ammo I’ve shot in any of my calibers... but it’s about the only available option

My PSA shoots 123's sub moa. What brand rifles y'all got?

I had to replace the barrel on the cheap Arsenal Defense upper I bought. It would shoot sub MOA one time and then a 4-5” group. Tried 4-5 different ammo and even loaded some hand loads. Finally got tired of it and took to a gun smith and put a 18” Odin barrel and no shoots several different loaded extremely well.

There were several problems with the factory barrel from what the gun smith said.

                  1 bear creek
                  2 PSA
                  1 ar stoner

All shoot everything including wolf under 2” and as good as 3/4”

For sub $300 I’m happy with 2”.... let’s be honest with what it is

Just scratching my head why the “most preferred ammo” for this caliber will not shoot in any of the 4, bought in different locations, shot by different shooters. But will stack cheap ol wolf junk

                  Wolf
                  Hornady ELD-match
Fusion (they shot, I haven’t found any)

                  All shot well within expectations

Just the SST, and they are HORRIBLE in all 4 (plus 2 sent back to PSA).. that’s all that was shot from them, so unknown if ammo was issue there

The ELD-M should work fantastic at Grendel velocities. Much like a standard cup and core. That’s the only bullet I’ve ran in my 7-08 and 6.5 CM the last few years since they discontinued the Amax in the higher BC bullets. The bullet has performed great on everything from coyotes to cow elk, whitetail and hogs. Shots from 50 yds to 400 yds, and everywhere in between. This is with the 140 gr 6.5, and 162 gr 7mm. Both pushed at a muzzle velocity of 2650~. I’ve had exits on all but one elk at 300 yds. That bullet was recovered just under the offside hide.

There’s not enough difference in them that you should see that much variance.

Mine shoots both well under 1”. The ELDM might have a very slight advantage but not enough for me to use them hunting. Mine is a high $$ Bartlein barrel.

That’s a lot better review than I can give. All I have shot with the ELD is a hog. It should work on deer

I have watched several videos lately on the eld-m for the Grendel.
It actually performs very well in the gel tests. Mushrooms consistently and penetrates 16-18”.
I am shooting the federal gold metal 130gr Berger now, which shoot very well. I might go back to hornady black eld-m after I finish my last box.

My 12” PSA grendel grouped 3 different hornady rounds (SST, HPBT black, and ELD M black) in 2-3”.

Switched to 120gr federal fusion and it shout a little under an inch. Those were also deadly on deer.

I was happy with the hornady with such a short barrel but I’m very impressed with the Federal’s. I guess every gun is different

I know that my 12.5” PSA upper has gotten better the more I’ve shot it. When I only had a couple boxes through it I was ready to throw it away, but now at around 100rnds though it it’s tightened up a good bit. Saying that of the 3 Hornady rounds I tried(eldm, sst, and bthp) it shoots the eldm the best. It’s close to moa at 100 with the eldm and probably 2+ with the other two. I’ve been wanting to try some other stuff, but all I ever find on the shelf is hornady.

That is weird. I really wanted mine to be accurate with 120 fusions and it wasn't. Stacks 120 GMX's (custom ammo) and 123 sst's at moa or slightly better, with the fusions I was 2". I don't think i have even ever heard of a 9" group! Thats awful.
