I can tell you that a cheap light WalMart tripod won't work.

I found 2 tripods at an estate sale for 5 bucks a piece. They old but very well built. All metal no plastic. I just made my "saddle" army style. I've been using it for 5 or 6 years.

Those that say Walmart's won't work. This one rode in my truck until the leg broke off. Could go through ten of these at the price if some of those things. But eventually they break and you'll get there.

Good score DWA. Those setups look very good. The bottom one looks like its stable, light and mobile without uber bulkyness.

For me..Time to invest in a good tripod. The Reaper grip came in and mounted to the Shockey sticks. Too much lateral torsion/torquing on the shooting sticks handle. Both systems work really well...just not together.

"Buffalo sticks"....Two crossed driver shafts..... leave the grips on....camo duct tape the shafts... wet leather boot laces wrapped and tied below the grips....torch dry the wet leather to shrink it.....wrap over the leather with tape if you don't like the feel.....

Cheap tripods aren't stable enough for my liking.

I used to use one on my spotting scope and just the wind would push it around enough to drive me nuts.
