Given a choice, 375 H&H any day... but I also have one in a Winchester Model 70 built in 1965. Love that caliber for large game (elk and bigger). I load Barnes 300 gr TSX over RL15 that will cloverleaf 3 rounds at 100 yards. That caliber is the gold standard for large game all over the world.

For the guys that say the Holland & Holland is the only way to go, how much time did y'all spend testing both on game and how many big animals have y'all shot with each ?

      Asking for a friend ?

H&H is the way to go. Been a favorite and trusted round for large to biggest game for over a century.

A quick check on the hodgdon site shows the Ruger outpacing the H&H by 50-100 FPS with 300 grain bullets and 24” barrels.

Once the bullet leaves the barrel the case it came from doesn’t matter. The two are similar in velocity to the extent that there is no difference. I like the Ruger because I get identical velocity from a full power H&H in a shorter handier barrel. Some will say the more slender shape of the H&H casing aids in feeding but then controlled feed vs push feed does too. It’s 308 vs 30-06, 7-08 vs 7x57, 260 vs 6.5x55. If you’re a lefty it’s hard to beat the Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan or Guide. If you’re all jacked up and have to do things with your right hand then fancier rifles are available to choose from.

I was on a lease with a guy in east Tx that dressed in all safari clothing and carried a 375 h&h to shoot whitetail. He was a fruitcake and would literally get mad if somebody killed a nice buck and he didn’t.

                    I watched a .375 H&H stop a elephant charge at 20 yards
And you can still use it on a deer
Plus it has been killing critters big and small for over 100 years

                      It was a rhetorical question

I don't have one but my 9.3x62 is pretty close, the only con I could see is ammo availability if you don't reload. It will hammer anything on this side of the ocean.

I have a 375 Ruger that has never been hunted, only shot a few times on the range. It has the original scope rings, a set of quick release alaskan rings, new dies, new hulls I think two boxes of ammo and original box. All for $1000. It is a good shooter at the range and is still as new

Not to derail his thread......but a 405 cast and 53 grains of IMR 3031 gets about as stupid as you want.

Pretty much what I’m planning to load two rounds of.. I already cast a 405 grain bullet and have plain base gas checks on the way. After I get my punishment, I’ll probably go back to middling marlin load
