Help getting serial number on stolen gun

My guns got jacked out of my car at my parents house this past Wednesday in Burnet County. They got my Colt LE 6920 and my Remington 600 243. I have the serial number for my 243, but not the AR. I bought the AR new and was wondering if there is any way to contact the state, Academy I bought it from, etc.. to track down the serial number? I need to give the number to the officer ASAP. Thanks and any info will be greatly appreciated!!

Dont Listen to Louis aka Richard,,,,,, I once had a contractor steal a ar lower out of my closet while installing flooring.... It was a FFL transfer so my FFL had it on record, I just had to make the call... I would talk to academy or the local sherrifs dept. they can probably point you in the right direction... Sorry for your loss

I don't think the State is going to be a source for help. If anything, it will be Academy. The question becomes whether or not they will be willing/able to help. I don't know what the protocol is for them. I do my FFL transfers through an individual so he has a file to reference if needed.

Hate to hear a thief got you. Hopefully the guns get recovered.

I also apologize for Louis comments. That response provided zero help to the question you are asking.

If the gun has been purchased fairly recently Academy will have the serial number. If they won't give it to you have the agency that took your report call them.

Talk to the manager at Academy. If you know when you bought it he may be willing to look it up for you. I can't see them sifting through thousands of records for you though if you don't know what month or day you bought it. They sell hundreds or thousands of guns a month depending on season.

You are correct, but I didn't on this particular night. This happened in a remote area that's at least 3/4 miles off of pavement. Got in late and didn't unpack everything. Lesson learned

Do you have any picture of the lower on your phone. The quality of the picture may be good enough to zoom in and read the SN.

Your only hope is the FFL. The state does not keep track of serial numbers. FFL has to keep the records for 5 years I believe. If its been that long you are probably SOL. Sorry that happened.

I think it's been 6 years, but I'm trying to figure out the exact purchase date so I can contact Academy. Thanks

I was just at Academy and the gun bar manager told me that it was easy for them to pull up a serial number, he does it all the time for people. Sounds as if they can just put your name into the computer and pull up all your gun purchases. Just go to the store that you bought it at.

I don't think they have been electronic records that long. He bought it almost 6 years.

They have to keep the paper forms for a minimum of 20 years. From what I was told, the electronic records are kept for ever.
