Which higher end 22-250 to buy? Or just go custom?

Pops loves him a good 22-250 and I’m going to bite the bullet soon and get him a good one so he can use/maybe I’ll use it also

Budget isn’t a huge issue hence considering going the custom route but was curious what high end over the counter manufacture you guys have and love if it’ll save me 750-1000$ compared to a custom.

Please no one say savage axis, TC compass, or Ruger American lol

Would like it to be threaded but if it’s not I’ll send it to Class III machining if need be. Also already have a VX5HD to put on top of it.

Not high end, but I had a Savage Model 10 that was sub MOA. I couldn’t have asked for a better rifle at any price.

Search for the cooper that was in the classifieds and see if it's still available.

I know I'll probably regret not buying it

I'd just call Robert at APR and tell him what I want. That way you can get a rifle just like you want

I'm gong to say go custom if it's in the budget.

If not perhaps one of the new Brownings, a Bergara or Tikka. The Tikka would need a B&C stock along with a few other mods. I look at it like buying the base rifle and adding to it as you please. There's even a machine shop making aluminum bottom metal for it.

If you go custom and you hand load, take a hard look at the 22 Creed. It's step and step with my 22-250AI and doesn't require fire forming.

This is what I believe I’ll end up doing.

Was looking at the Christianson arms and what not and was curious.

Will look for the Cooper to take a peak

I've heard good and bad about CA, it seems a bit risky. I just passed on a trade offer for one on another site.

I know APR took a beating to their reputation with Curtis build but I assure you they corrected any and all issues.

I feel like providing him an action or going with his new action is a solid choice and you'll be very happy in the end. I've done the math and if you spend $450 on a doner action plus machine work vs. building on his action you save very little.

I'm planning a lightweight magnum build on his new action after the first of the year. Been talking to Robert about it, lots of exciting new items coming out this next year.

Look at the Sako rifles. Really nice and accurate rifle

A Tikka T3 Varmint in 22-250 would be hard to beat. They can be had for around $700, throw a B&C stock on it (or higher end if you wish), $10 trigger spring from Mountain Tactical, and you'd be in a dang nice, accurate SOB for $1K or so. I believe they come with a 24" barrel.

Weatherby Super Varmintmaster in 22-250. I don’t think it has been in production for a while now, but if you can find one in good shape, it will shoot lights out.

I have several Coopers and highly recommend them for a higher end factory produced rifle. For an heirloom piece you could go with the custom shop and get a masterpiece if you don't mind spending money. Add an exhibition stock, color case hardening with some engraving etc.
