I just had Pete Pieper do one for me. It turned out great.

Alamo Precision Firearms does good fluting. They are a site sponsor and in Hurst.

I am completely ignorant on this subject.... that rifle looks awesome but does fluting do anything for the accuracy or performance?

APR fluted and installed the muzzle break for me. Love the way it turned out.

            Makes it a little lighter.

Yup...it's for looks & weight reduction.

The whole concept of making it stiffer with less whip has been disproven.

Thanks for the input. I will start back working on it after hunting season. Then I will show her off. Stock has not arrived as of yet either.

As others said, weight and looks mostly. It will be stiffer than an equivalent weight barrel without flutes, but less stiff than it was before fluting. I used to be into it, but think it's kind of a waste (if you're looking to save weight). If I want a lighter barrel, I'll go down a contour size or go CF.

OP ... what barrel manufacturer ? If it’s a Shilen, HART, or button rifled barrel I highly advise against it. Fluting will cause added stress and could likely result in poor accuracy. Fluting will only reduce rifle weight by a few ounces. You could reduce the same amount of barrel weight by shortening barrel 1-2 inches. Ideally fluting should be done before barrel lapping.

Understand the risks involved that fluting your barrel now could result in increased groups sizes and poor accuracy. If I were your GS, I’d advise against it.

This^^. Unless the looks of fluting are what you want, I wouldn't do it.

Cajun Blake is on point. Not saying it'll hurt accuracy but button rifled barrels have to be stress relieved due to the way the button is pulled through creating stresses in the barrel and I would advise against it as well as it could very well create an issue. Again, it "could". Not saying it will by any means.

Thanks that is great information. Yes the only reason for exploring this option is weight. Cutting some barrel length is option as i'm at 26" now.

Even cutting it down will change your barrels harmonics and load data. If you are shooting factory ammo, you may need to go through several different boxes to see what it likes all over again. With that said, it could shrink your groups just the same.
