I'm wanting to purchase a new rifle and looking for suggestions on builder/manufacturer. I've been contemplating the Christensen Arms route as I've shot my buddy's Ridgeline and really like that rifle. I was leaning towards the Mesa without the carbon fiber barrel in the $1200 range. This will likely be the nicest rifle I ever own so I have been thinking about upping my budget to $2k (hard stop at that amount), but I am not familiar with many gun makers in that range. Wishing I would have been able to get in on the APR TBH special. What else is out there in that range that is "semi custom" or even a nicer production rifle. Outside of the APR special can I even get into something custom for that amount? I'm pretty dead set on the 6.5 Creedmoor and it will be used mostly as a hunting rifle but also enjoy dinging some steel plates out to 800 yards or so.

Or if you are for sure a hard stop at $2,000.00 have them price out a Maverick build leaving out the spiral work on the barrel and bolt. You can also leave off the threaded barrel if you have no desire for a suppressor.
Or as mentioned above, if you have a Rem 700 donor they will build off of your action, the savings for this used to be $400 I think but you will have to get current figures directly from APR

For $2200 you can get an APR.
Rifle Specs * Caliber 6.5 Creedmoor Action Trued Remington Barrel MullerWorks APR Contour 1-8 Twist Barrel Fluting 3 Flute Fast Spiral Barrel Length 22 Threading 5/8X24 w/ Blended Thread Protector Bottom Metal APR BDL Trigger TriggerTech Primary Bolt Fluting Spiral Bolt Knob Small Fluted Stock Grayboe Outlander - APR S
May be able to talk to them to reduce the price further. Minus the fluting, threading, or paint.Last edited by captainsling; 08-23-2018, 01:21 PM.

I would at least look at proof and fierce if you want a carbon fiber barrel. I used to think Christensen was fantastic but it sounds like quality has suffered a bit. Look at all posts over on rokslide. I had APR build me one with a hardy carbon fiber barrel but I don’t have it yet. Much higher price though.

If you're hard against the 2k mark talk to APR and they may be able to work with you on options such as fluting, paint, barrel threading and the stock.
If you can wait or save the money, you'll be very happy in the end.
I can't speak to the CA or other similar rifles regarding performance. I have owned a Cooper and while they're as fine a rifle made they're limited in options. In looks you can compare a Sendero, Wby Browning HellsCanyon or CA to a basic APR or similar but performance and customer service will not compare.

Very reasonably priced.

Unfortunately, no donor actions in my safe.
Thanks for all of the suggestions I'll look into some of these options.

Look at Gunbroker for some good deals on donor actions.
If you find a bdl for $450 or less you're in great shape. The older trigger can be reworked for $75 and will easily compare to a timney when done.
If it's in good shape, the bdl stock will re-sell for $50-$100 and you now have the bottom metal, mag and trigger.
I heard recently there was one in the League City Cabela's that would fit this requirement.
