? on choke tube install on fixed shotgun

I have a 70's era Franchi AL48 semi shotgun. Takes 2 3/4" shells only and has a fixed modified choke. The gun is beauty and would like to keep it but the no changeable choke option makes it sit in the safe.
So before I sell it, how much barrel wall(thickness) is necessary to install choke threads? Or is this gun even worth it? I know you won't find a Italian semi auto .12ga for less than 800-$1000. Just seeing what y'all think.
    Thanks Tony.

I have an older o/u that was threaded by briley. I'd reach out to them.

Assuming the Franchi is a 12 gauge....
Minimum barrel OD for lead or steel shot is .825
For lead only and no magnum loads is .805

Yeah hit up Briley and see. A friend of mine has and old 870 wingmaster that he had threaded using thin wall chokes.

I had a Browning auto done years ago. Thinking it was under $300 for them to thread the barrel and supply 5 thin wall chokes. Definitely made the gun more versatile.

Going to have to dig out the mic and measure. There is one on gunbroker for 825, but that one is engraved. If mine is a $700 shotgun and it will cost $300 to have chokes installed. I don't think that is feasible. I'll just reach for the Mossberg, save $300 and sell this Franchi.

              Thanks for the responses guys.

Briley chokes aren't cheap. If they'll thread and give you 5 chokes for $300 that's not a terrible deal.

I bought my shotgun after it was threaded so I'm unsure of the cost.

Other option would be to find a replacement barrel that is already threaded?

I don't think thin wall tubes are no to shot rated. Not sure If you are planning to hunt waterfowl with the gun or not.

If you are stuck with one choke for lead shot on dove etc. Mod isn't a bad one to have.

I had a 30 inch barrel fixed choke 1100 and had the barrel cut down and threaded for screwed chokes years ago and its worked great.

I popped on Brileys site and I see they are in Houston. $150 just to thread for chokes, no chokes supplied. $249 with chokes. I would add $50 in shipping back and forth.

$200 and $300 are the options. Don't think it is worth it, considering this work is about 50% value of the shotgun. This Franchi may be in the classifieds soon.
                        Thanks again guys.

I would keep that barrel like it is and find a new barrel that is already threaded for chokes.

I just had a beretta barrel done the week before thanksgiving. Thin wall threads and 3 extended chokes was 376. When I picked it up they gave me a tube case, tube grease and a gun sock. Turnaround was 7 days including turkeyday holiday.

And yes, you can have steel shot tubes made
