VX5 gets another vote at that price range. Puts my Nightforce shv glass to shame.

I picked up an used Burris XTRii 3-15 for 650 a while back. Really nice glass for the price even at new prices.

Zeiss HD5 on sale at Cabela’s is not a bad choice. They have a 5-25x50 with locking target turrets for $750.00

I have a couple VX3’s without the CDS and really like them. I’m looking at putting a Leupold with the CDS on the APR I ordered.

Leupold vx5 another vote from me! The Zeiss is obviously another option if you can find it in your price point.. both great options for what you got. But, someone else said if you up your budget you can get into a better tier of glass and that rifle can do whatever you want it to as far as you can see!

I put a vx5 on a varmint rifle pretty great scope. I have the fire dot reticle.

I'd look at a vx3i long range or 5, which ever fits your budget the best with the options you desire.

I have 3 vx6 3-18's and love them. But since the price increase with the HD models I can't say that I'd get them again. Hard to justify the extra price for the average hunting application when the 3 and 5 deliver so much performance for the money.

What is the difference in glass between the VX-3i and VX-5?

That would get you into a vx6 3-18. All the features of the 3 or 5 plus a few more options and better glass.

That kind of $$$ is in the range of a NF shv or possibly a used nsx which is a great scope but heavy. Many many others in that price range like Burris and ziess but I'm not too familiar so I'll let others comment.

When looking at these scopes it's nearly impossible to see the difference of glass in a store. I always try to take them outside and focus on something a long ways off and look for the little details.

What's even better is to compare at the shooting range. I will many times ask to look through other scopes sitting side by side. I have a large line oak tree at 800 yards that I look for details in the leaves and vines in the better glass.

                            scope

Being that your scope will mostly be used for hunting I think it would be worth taking a look at Nikon's MONARCH 5 HD line of scopes. Incredibly clear HD glass and 5X zoom. You can get a custom turret, use the BDC reticle or both. I know some guy's don't like BDC scopes but for hunting they are tough to beat when you have to make a quick longrange shot. I have watched guy's new to Nikon's BDC reticle dial in the scope and ammo with Spot On then blow up 4 inch jar's of tannerite at 600 yards. Lots of excellent opti'c in the price range you stated, the MONARCH 5 is under $1000. I am also a fan of Nikon's Black X1000 line. Lot's of great features for not a lot of $.

If you can go up to that range then a used/demo Swarovski Z5 starts to come into play.

For me personally Nikon wouldn’t even be a consideration. I put them in Vortex class.

After my recent bout with Nikon I put them below vortex. I'll actually buy another vortex
