    Scope Choice Conundrum

With a new build from APR looming ever closer to completion I have yet to decide on a scope...

I originally had it narrowed down to either a Zeiss HD5 5-25×50 or a Nightforce SHV 5-20×56.

But now I've been looking at the Huskemaw blue diamond 5-20×50, Athlon Ares 4.5-27×50 and even the Vortex Gen 2 PST 5-25×50.

My budget is about $1,200. The rifle is a 6.5 Creedmor and will be a long range hunting/steel rig.

Turning to the Green Screen for any real world reviews of the scopes above or any others I should consider? I don't have a preferrence on FFP or SFP.

Thanks in advance for any reviews/recommendations!

If possible, go to a local gunshop and look thru each scope and let your eyes decide

Research warranty offered by all companies

I would definitely go 30 or 34mm tube since it will allow more MOA adjustment

Adjustable turrets , ocular eyepiece and parallax adjustments are a must

I have the HD5 that you mentioned, I really like the scope. Lots of places offering great deals on them. I just ordered the new Zeiss V6 Conquest. For a new build. I have not looked through it yet. But the reviews from the FTW Ranch, where it was launched have been great. They did a major overhaul on the HD5 with this new scope. Lots of upgrades which include the same glass used on the Victory line.

I'd go nightforce or huskemaw out of that group. I didn't like my Zeiss hd, the vortex is trash and the Athlon is just ok. I'd also look at the SWFA supersniper HD 5-20×50. Good luck!!

APR put a Nightforce SHV 5-20×56 on my sons 6.5. Very nice scope. Give APR a call they can get you a good price also they got his for him and on short notice...

I haven't had a chance to look through the Nightforce or Huskemaw yet. No one around me has either.

Agreed on all the must have you listed!

I like the V6 but it is out of my price range.

Is there anything about the HD5 you don't like?

That's the way I'm leaning now. I looked at the SWFA but it is only in Mil and I prefer MOA.

What didn't you like about the HD5?

Checked out the website but they don't carry Nightforce, Zeiss or Huskemaw.

I have a 4-14 SHV and like it a lot. Same glass as a NXS but the turrets aren't as good. My SHV tracks just fine though.

I love my HD5 no complaints at all. The V6 Is going to be about $250 more than your budget. I wast about to buy my third HD5, then I saw the V6. Going to give it a try.

I have the NF 5-20 SHV. It tracks great and the zero set is nice. The clicks are not as defined as my NF Benchrest, but still really good.
