Haven't seen too many people call the vortex gen 2 trash. Have you already used one?

Dang no good.. I thought I had read glass was better from most and turrets better but a failure isn't good no matter what

You left out the leupold vx6 in your price range. I'd run a 3-18x50 vx6 before any that you mentioned. NF and huskemaw close behind. No clue on the gen 2 pst. Too early but the old one was a flop and athlon is a joke as a whole from everything I have seen. Maybe they'll come around. Optics market has to be dang hard to succeed in these days with a new company.

The non-HD version is in my price range but I was wanting atleast a 20x magnification. I see that it's offered in a 4-24x also but it's a bit more than if like to spend. I will check out the 3-18x though! Thanks for the recommendation!

I stumbled across a Leica ER 5 5-25×56mm at my local gun store yesterday for what seems like a great price $1,199.

Anyone have any experience with these? Glass seemed very clear. Only thing they had to compare to was the Vortex PST gen II 5-25x50 and there was a noticeable difference in clarity at max zoom and the turrets felt better to me also.

What about Athlon was a joke and which model have you used?

that's the new line of hunting scopes offered by Leica

turret caps cover the adjustment dial like regular hunting scopes, NO target style turrets

also and a bigger concern, total elevation MOA is 50" so you have 25" up and 25" down. If shooting long range you will run out of adjustment

IMO, it's a great hunting scope, but poor design if used for LR tactical style shooting

if you're gonna spend $1200 buy a NF and be done with it
