Police: Bandera man shot and killed neighbor’s cat

A Bandera County man is charged with aggravated animal cruelty after police say he shot and killed his neighbor’s cat.

Two people told Bandera County deputies that they heard a muffled or silenced gunshot coming from Craig Witchgrass’s Bandera home this evening. When they looked into Witchgrass’s yard, they saw him holding a rifle and approaching the cat, apparently checking whether it was dead, according to a police report.

The cat’s owner told police she had previously owned another cat that had gone missing and feared it had also been hurt by suspect Witchgrass.

You might not see anything wrong with yet but the animal lover that saw you do it will report you for the felony that it is. Being feral is meaningless under TX law.

Is it a felony if you are protecting livestock?

Do chickens not count as livestock?.

Honest questions as I always understood you could legally kill dogs only when they were attacking or killing livestock and assumed cats would fall into same

I think you have to be protecting them, not just seeing an animal on your driveway and had some chicks disappear in the past.

All the feral cats I see don't just sit there and look at you as you walk towards them.

I was wondering too if it was more of a crime to commit a crime with a silencer.

If protecting your livestock it is perfectly legal. People need to keep their animals on their own property. Loose dogs and cats almost always cause problems but since the owners don't see it they believe that their little sweet pet is an angel.
