I own a Marlin 336 and really enjoy it. Tough, dependable rifle.
    All the best,
    Glenn

Remington 788 gets my vote. Awesome little bolt action .30-30. After that, Marlin and Winchester.

They have a few old marlin glen field on gun broker right now, my old one had a walnut stock that was almost white. If I could turn the clock back 20 or so years I would have never traded that gun.

It's hard to believe that we chose other calibers. 30-30 just a cool caliber!

I've got a marlin 336 BL all decked out I may be willing to sell. Bought it on here awhile back and it's sweet!! Got a few things to pay for so was gonna post it up for sale soon. Here's the link to the original post... maybe one of them will work.

With a $1500 budget, you could find a mint pre-64 winchester model 94 that is about as good as you can get...

All guns are good now when you get right down to it. I collect them and I used to only want JM stamped marlins or pre-64 winchesters. However a few years ago I had a JM marlin that shot way right, about 5' right. So I sent it to marlin and they found me out the barrel was screwed on crooked at the factory way back when. So they sent me a cowboy 45-70 and I'm very happy with quality. 2" group at a hundred. And I believe whatever one you like is what you should get.
