Winchester model 94 (pre1964 will hold value better)
    Marlin 336

I like my Winchester model 94, in both 30-30 and .22.

I'd take a look at Henry these days.

They are all pretty solid guns. I have had 5 Winchester model 94 pre 64. These guns were old enough to have saddle wear on the blueing still shot and functioned like brand new. My 1st was a Marlin 30AW w/ gold trigger. Shot many a critter with it. Handed it down to my son when he turned 15 for his first 4 years ago.

I love levers. 30 30 is probably my favorite deer rifle. Just fun to shoot and get it done. Marlin or Winchester. All I use is Hornady leverlution. Great combo!

I really like the Browning lever actions...but, most of the time if I see one for sale and do my research, they are over priced for used. So, with that said, I just really like the lever actions no matter what brand....(do your research and Google models then decide.)

For buying new I say Henry. I like the loading tube over the side loading of the marlin and winchester. But used I just cleaned a marlin 336 that had more dirt and oil in it than air space, and it still shot lights out. So marlin gets my vote

I really like the Marlins, but if you look for one, try to find one that has the "JM" (for John Marlin) stamped on the barrel, rather than the newer "Remlins" (Remington bought out Marlin a few years ago). They have had a problem with quality control, but this is supposed to be cleared up by now. Marlins are amazing rifles. Light, tough, and accurate. If you like the classics, you might want to look for a Savage 99 chambered in .30.30. I have one chambered in .308 Winchester that I am very fond of.

                          Good luck,

                          Dave

                              They are all good

My primary deer rifle is a fully restored 1964 Savage 840 30-30 with Leupold Vx-1
