    Rossi .243 single shot questions.

Have a co-worker selling a single shot Rossi .243 with 3x9 on it and since the price is right I'm considering getting it, but I have questions. I'm guessing it'll be ok for pig hunting but any reason not to use it for deer? Anything to look out for or be wary of with a Rossi?

Thousands of deer have been slain with a .243 Winchester - so no worries there assuming good shot placement. The .243 is an excellent round, and quite versatile as well. It is particularly well suited for introducing a new or novice shooter to a center fire rifle. As far as Rossi products go, my experience has been good, but limited. I have a Rossi revolver (Model 720) that I've owned and used for years without any problems. They aren't as rugged as a Ruger, nor as refined as a Colt or S&W, but they are generally regarded as being decent firearms. Have you done any on-line research on the model of rifle you're thinking of buying?

    Regards,

    Dave

      Dave,

I did do some online looking at the reviews run the gamut from "excellent" to "makes a great fence post". General overall is that it is a good rifle. I'm partial to single shot shotguns and single action revolvers so I figured a single shot rifle would be right up my alley. Thank you for the response.

      Richard.

IN MY PERSONAL OPINION, Rossi guns are rinky- dink pieces of garbage.
They look like they were not machined, but cut with a saw and finished with a file.

I got a .243 Rossi single shot youth model for my son and it's a great little gun for the money. It's shooting slightly less than 2" groups @ 100yds, with the Hornady managed recoil ammo.

Rossi-Spanish for bad trigger. Also, the forend mount bolt is hard to keep consistently tight. Over tightening seems to bow the barrel and really mess with barrel harmonics. The one I messed with would change POI by 5 inches at 100 yds by loosening and re-tightening the forend bolt.

I've owned one Rossi rifle, in .223.

              I won't own another.

I don't have pics on the computer, but there are 3 deer on my wall from the wife (1), and son (2), that were killed with a synthetic green Rossi .243 at 100-180 yards. It's not a tack driver, but neither are most shooters. We have 4 .243's and they have all killed deer, hogs and song dogs. 2 of them are Rossi singles. If the price is right you won't lose money on it.

Save your money and get a bolt savage or ruger .243. Lifetime gun.
Nothing fun or cheap about an inaccurate single shot.

Been there, sold it after much cussing.

Very hit or miss with Rossi. I have heard great stories, but I bought my daughter one and wont get another. I'll fell bad to whoever I sell this one to.

I honestly don't think you will be happy with it and I would suggest for you to look at something else.

I still own one in 223 and will not by another.

My son has one that my younger brother had for about 8 years in .243. With Remington CL it shoots about 1.5" at 100 yards. I'll be working up a load this year for it and hope to bring it down closer to 1". It'll never be mistaken for a high dollar rifle but for a kid or a truck gun it fits the bill.

I had a Rossi 223 Rem and It wouldn't shoot good except with light Ammo.

Got a CVA Hunter and it gets 1" groups at 100m yards with almost any Ammo off the shelf...
