Which scope do you run?

SWFA 3x15x42 classic on my Rem 700 .270. I guess it is a tactical scope but the reticle is very simple and clean and it'll take a beaten in a 4x4 or SxS or 4wheeler heading out to the stand. Well our place is super rocky and mine takes a beaten and is perfect everytime!

Actually that tactical look doesn't look bad on that wood rifle. I'm looking for a scope for my browning medallion and wanted a classy look for this rifle but that doesn't look bad at all.

After 10 years.....

After 10+ years of using having the same scopes on my 2 favorite rifles I finally traded up. It was kind of a no brainer and already paid off! I just put a Nikon MONARCH 5 3-15x42ED SF Advanced BDC for my left handed .300 Win and a MONARCH 5 4-20x50ED SF with Custom XR Turret for my left handed .257 WbyMag. The ED glass on these two scopes is outstanding. I have already harvested a very nice Kansas Buck and Doe with the .300 Win.

I'll be airig the .257 Wby out on a coyote hunt in 2 weeks, I can't wait!

Zeiss doesn't make a 4-12x50 Conquest, so I figure it was the Zeiss Terra. The Terra line isn't near the quality of glass as the Conquest line

While good glass certainly matters, your light gathering capabilities come from magnification and objective lens size. Turn down your magnification, and you will gather more light. The bigger the objective lens and the less your magnification, the more light you will gather.

Yes and no. Turning the magnification down to where the exit pupil is bigger than your pupil is going backwards but does make poor optics appear brighter. Good glass and the correct objective lens size for the magnification is the key to being able to see what you are shooting at in low light situations.

You will appreciate the top shelf glass when you have sun glare & dusk/dawn...it's the coating that really helps over the others.

I would rather have great glass & a decent bolt gun vs the opposite...I still run a few Vari-x III's but have jumped to swaro & the VX6 on most everything else. I'm slowly moving all my glass to 30mm tubes accept for the mountain style guns.

Yep. Good glass is worth it's weight in gold. Unfortunately most people have never used good glass so they just don't understand.

I've got all shapes sizes and ages of leupolds on my stuff. Tent to primarily favor a 2-7 but I've got others as well, just kinda depends on what rifle it's going on. Just hard to beat the quality of leupold for the price.

I've had higher end Bushnell, Nikon and Leupold also. My 300WM is my big boy gun purpose built for 300+yd shots. I like Vortex because of their warranty. Decent glass but excellent customer service. I can be rough on guns and none of mine are safe queens so I need a company to stand behind their products. Vortex seems to have shaken up the industry when it comes to no questions asked warranties so many of the other standup traditional mid level names have upped their game too.

All that being said, my go to rifle that kills more and I am most effective with is the $300 Savage 110 30-06 with a $140 Redfield scope lol. Over the last 3 years constantly hunting with it everything winds up dead right there and I am happy with the setup.

I can't seem to find a conquest in a 3-9 zoom. Only comes up as a zeiss terra, am i missing something here?

No sir. Very happy with the Ziess Conquest. I was singling that scope out as not being mid range but high end. The Ziess Terra is a Japanese made( mid range price wise), not German. Good scope, just not as good as the Victory line and Conquest.

I have a variety of scopes from Leupold, Zeiss, Schmidt Bender, and Swarovski, but my favorite is Z6i 1.7-10 and prefer a rail mount model.
