Same deal with distances here, my farthest shot in my longest sendero would be 300 but I'm wanting good glass for those first and last minutes of light. Also I'm hoping to get on some elk hunts in the future so it would be helpful with those as well.

      Meopta 3.5-10x 44mm Meopro on my 30-06
Leupold Vari X III 4.5-14X 40Mm AO on my 300 Wby
      Vortex Viper 2-7x 35mm on my 30-30
      Weaver 44/40 2.8-10x 44mm on my 270 truck gun
      Weaver 44/40 3-9x 40mm on my .243

All are good scopes but my preference is in the order above.

That meopro sure is a nice scope. Also seems that the vxiii is a very good scope.

Leopold, Nikon, bushnell trophy, even a simmons or two. That is what I have had over the years and have had good luck with all of them. That said what I look for in a hunting scope is decent glass and ability to hold a zero, if they do that I am happy. I, like you, are not looking to shoot 1000 yards, as a matter of a fact I think I have killed more animals with peep sights than scopes. I bet any of the name brand scopes in the 200-300 dollar range will work great for you (and most everyone else), just look through them and find the one that looks clearest to you. Of the ones I had the Nikons seemed clearest and brightest but YMMV. Good luck

I'm very pleased with it so far. It's a nice range to go from 3X to 18X
            Same in 5x30. Great scopes.

I put a Bushnell 3-10x 40mm Elite 3200 SA on my son's 30-30 but I took it off of another rifle and I'm thinking of reclaiming it and putting a Redfield 3-9x 40mm Revolution on his 30-30.

I currently have a bushnell elite 3200 on my 270 and I don't like it. Has very bad light transmission, I lose about 15 minutes of shooting time I would have with my Nikon on my 30-06.

I killed a buck tonight at last light. Being cloudy, that came a little earlier today, and if I had waited five minutes longer I would have had to pass. I could plainly see he met AR, was decently heavy, and had short tines. I shot him, watched him through the scope for about a minute, called my wife to bring the truck, got my knife and rubber gloves, and when I got out of the stand, even though I knew where he was, I couldn't see him at about eighty yards. That's how close to dark it was. I used to shoot hogs at night under a feeble light with my Nikons before I got a night vision scope. Don't think you will have any trouble there.

I see what your saying but I've had a buck frequenting my feeder at first legal light and vanishing before I would be able to see him with my scope on my 270. Id hate to be out there and be able to see him in my vortex binos but not in my scope.

Nikon M-308. Love it! Crystal clear, can see very well at dawn/dusk. BDC reticle is spot on with the app they have. Buying the 223 version for my AR tomorrow.
