Out of the same length barrel muzzle velocity will be the same. At any distance beyond 50yds the Grendel is higher.
300 yards is another myth.
I'm not denying that the 6.5 is better for trajectory. The 6.5 bullet has a better BC. All I'm saying is if he's looking for a factory built gun and isn't going to need the benefits of a Grendel. Then the 6.8 might be the better option for his needs.

Last time I saw you can buy the Grendel from a manufacturer. Many.... If trajectory is better....then velocity is higher so it is hitting harder.
I haven't meet anyone who has a 6.8 and a 6.5 that likes the 6.8 better. The Grendel is gaining popularity and the 6.8 is losing it. I have sold over 60 Grendel barrels in the last 5 months and have not had anyone ask for anything in 6.8.

Alexander and JP are the only two manufactures that I can think of off the top of my head.
Once again, I'm not saying that the grendel isn't better on paper as far as trajectory and KE but its not like it's night and day. I just made a suggestion that if he doesn't need to have it for longer ranges as he said he has a .308 for that, then maybe he should just look at the 6.8. I never said the 6.8 is better than the grendel. I said I like it better, but that is a personal opinion that I have made based off my uses for those two calibers. Most of the hunting I do with an AR rifle is at night and within 100 yards. Most of the time 50. So I don't get any of the benefits of the grendel.
He asked what our thoughts were so I gave him mine. It just happens to be different than most of you.
Are y'all seriously wanting to argue that bad? The purpose (for me at least) for AR platform rifles is to be lightweight and easy to maneuver. It's a lot easier to carry a 16" or shorter barreled AR around than a 24" heavy barrel AR.
I hunt hogs a lot at night with my ARs with thermal scopes that add some weight as it is, so I'm looking to shed ounces where I can because it can get annoying carrying a heavy rifle when stalking up to the hogs and walking back to the truck. I'm a shorter guy so once I have my suppressors on my rifles they get pretty long and are easy to stick into the dirt if you have to bend down. Some people just carry it a hundred yards or so to a blind and sit there. So weight and length doesn't matter then.
Your opinion might be different, but that is YOUR opinion.

Just a quick search turned up over 25 different manufacturers and none of them were JP, AA, or Les Baer.
I still prefer to build my own as I am OCD and **** about my AR's. But there is plenty of ammo and manufacturers out there.
I just get irritated about the myths that were true 10 years ago keep getting repeated, as well as those that were never true. I want good solid information out there so an informed decision can be made.
If we do not get good information.....we would all still be hunting with the British .303.

What manufacturers are you seeing making grendels?
I'm with you, I prefer to build my own since I'm picky and its a fun experience. Plus you save money.
Depending on how serious of a reloader you are you could get the six5 from AR15 performance. It beats the grendel. It's a 6.8 case cut down slightly and necked down to a 6.5 bullet. Like a 264 LBC but they made it slightly shorter so it can be loaded to magazine length.

I'm not arguing with you just pointing out facts. People seem to always think that an ar should be short and lightweight and once you get over an 18" barrel people think it's to long but they have bolt guns that have 24" or 26" barrels. I said earlier I'm building a 16" Grendel for night hunting. I think all calibers have their place and so do all guns and barrel lengths. There isn't such a thing as the perfect gun for everything.

264 LBC is the 6.5mm Grendel. Just a few thousands changed to get arround the copy right before he surrendered it.
this thread did nothing but confuse me more on what I want to build. I have a lower that I’ll finish as soon as I decide on what stock to do but after reading this I’m just more torn between grendel and 6.8 for a hunting, semi lr rifle
Both are good calibers but if you look at the ballistics the Grendel wins. The 6.8 is slowly dieing off and the Grendel is growing in huge numbers.

I don't believe that the 6.8 is dying off. In fact I see more now than I did a few years ago. The Grendel is growing though too.
They're both good calibers.
