My dad gave me a German Weatherby Mark V .240 Wby Mag when I was about 12 or 13. I still have it. I've killed a pile of mule deer, aoudad, whitetail, pronghorn, axis, and all kinds of varmints with it. The .240 Weatherby is a great round. 100 gr bullets traveling 3,400 fps are deadly on deer-sized game. Then you can drop down to a 55 gr bullet and send it down range at 4,000 fps if you want to vaporize a varmint.

In the 6mm world, it's pretty tough to beat.

Like Shane I had a German Weatherby Mark V .240 Wby Mag and I loved it. I shot whitetail and mule deer with it as well as yotes, and other varmints. It along with the .257 Weatherby were by far the flattest shooting rifles I've owned up until the 6.5 Creedmoor came into my life.

My .240 Weatherby was stolen out of my truck in Espanola, NM on the way home from hunting near Tierra Amarillo on a snowy cold day back in 84 or 85.

It's one I would like to have back.

Man, I really liked that gun. . Kind of a tweener caliber but it laid down everything from conejo to mule deer in convincing manner.

Asked the question because there is other things out there cheaper to load with velocity close or over the 240 but they require making.

Also 6mm credmoore needs to be looked at.

Ok. Why not run 338 Lapua or 50 BMG???
                    More bang for the buck

Don't like either. That's why I own a 26 Nosler and have 200 rounds of 340 Weatherby. I was in the military. I don't want anything to do with military rounds lol. That and if I was looking for bang for the buck I wouldn't own those Wild cals. I'd just have a 300 Winny.

I picked to go with the 6mmx284 for a fast 6mm. Same performance as the weatherby round with brass much easier to obtain. Also fits in a short action.

Yeah my friend has one that I almost bought from him. In real world it's generally running around 100fps less than the 240. I did find a place where you can head stamped 6mmX284 brass if you want me to find it again?

I've loaded some of my brass 8 times and only quit because I just don't know how much it's good for. At $1 each for new Norma brass it's not bad as everything I shoot uses premium brass.

What would a 6 creed do performance wise that a 243 wouldn't? Case capacity is the same.

Nothing. Just the argument of a shorter case to seat bullets longer just like the 6.5 Creed vs the 260, which is a moot point imo since there are several ways around that.
