I probably preferred the .308, just able to customize your ammo to your situation. I've shot deer at 200 yards and 50 yards with the same gun and killed both. Now they did run more than I wanted, but both bucks were shot during rut and were tailing. All hopped up on testosterone.

I liked the .270, but just never had any luck with them. Seems like the rounds didn't perform like I expected at long distances. To be fair, I have never owned a .270, just barrowed one a couple of times.

I have never hunted or shot a 7MM-08. Thought about getting one when I bought my 7MM Mag. So not sure about that caliber.

I have fallen in love with the 7MM mag. Bullet expansion and trajectory upon impact can be an issue at close range, but it knocks them down.

I thought this was going to be about DWI's.

I have both the 308 and 270. I love the 270 and killed sooooooo much with it(my first rifle), but find I grab the 308 more due to lighter weight, short action, and less recoil.

if you are blowing a .270 or .308, a DWI is the least of your worries!!!

I own both a .270 and .308. both are great rifles

                      1. 7mm-08
                      2. 308
                      3. 270

If I'm going to have a long action its going to be something better than a 270. The 7mm-08 is a super efficient, light recoiling, animal killing machine. The 308 is available in probably every city in the USA and has plenty to kill any animal in North America.

.270. Mine are accurate and deadly with minimal recoil with 130's for bucks and hogs. Cheap ammo.

I think the 7'08 and .260 are also great and were "invented" for Texas hunters.

I haven't read the replies, but Kind of a weird range of choices amigo...first question should be do you want a long or short action.

The 308 & 7-08 use the same case, so I would ask do you like as little recoil as possible or want to shoot heavy bullets?? The 7-08 with the 120gr Barnes is a killing machine & more pleasant to shoot, but if your thing is heavy, kinda hard to shoot 220gr with a .284 bullet.

                          You cannot go wrong.

I love my .308. Never any issues with it and it makes everything I point it at fall down.
