I stand corrected! After doing some research, Hogue does now offer full bedding block stocks. I swear I remember it being a piller bed or a pillars plus aluminum skeleton under the plastic add the only two options...maybe it changed recently. Anybody know?

I still prefer the fiberglass stocks over injection molded plastic, but with a full block in the Hogue, that brings the stock choice down to personal preference. Still need to verify which model Remington buys, because there is definitely still a pillars only option, and on a semi budget model rifle like the sps, I can't see them putting a $250 stock on it. I KNOW it used to just be pillars on the tactical.

labor to put it together- free if you are the least bit handy otherwise a gunsmith could pop the new barrel on in an hour for prolly 200 bucks or less

Here's one more option. It's slightly over your price range, but you are getting a WHOLE LOT more for your money - and you won't have to hope that you will win the production rifle lottery to end up with a shooter.

We recently decided to put together an entry level long range option that was as budget friendly as we could possibly make it. We really just wanted to see if we could build something nice at a factory rifle price point. We ended up here:

              Completely Trued Remington 700
              Spiral Fluted Bolt
Shilen SS Match Grade Sendero Profile Threaded 5/8-24
              Stocky's Long Range Stock
              Legacy Sports DBM
              Trigger Tech Trigger
              Magpul FDE Cerakote

              Total Price - $1,450

Not sure if we are going to offer these on a regular basis, but we could build a few if there is some interest.

              Thanks,
              Robert

What other color/pattern options are there for that stock? Other colors for Cerekote? Could the barrel come without the threads and no porting (just plain old barrel)? Would any of that change the price one way or the other?

Technical question for y'all who say that a .308 is not ideal.
Are you referring to a .308 caliber ie 7.62x51 or a .308 bullet like a 300 WM shoots.

.30 caliber bullets are great if they're shot out of a case that has enough powder in it to push them fast and flat. .308 caliber is SLOOOOOOOOWWWWW and trajectory looks like a rainbow. .300 Weatherby Mag. or Win. Mag, etc. are FAST and much flatter shooting.

It's a Stocky's stock, so it would be available in whatever colors they have on their site. Cerakote color could be whatever you wanted. Subtract $100 from the price if not threaded.

Ruger American predator in 6.5 Creedmoor $389 for the bare gun. Comes threaded and has a 20 Moa base. Here's my 100 yard 3 shot groups of my bipod today. Also shot out to 600 and had a 4 1/2" group off the bipod. Bench rest it would be tighter but I was practicing for a hunt.

I am a SWAT sniper and my work gun is a FN Special Police in .308. It's a good round for what I do. We use the .308 due to its slower velocity and its ability fly truer through glass than any other round. For glass work we shoot 180 nosler accubond and for open air shots we use the 168 grain Amax. But out past 500 it's a ****. I can do better long range work with my cheap 6.5 Creedmoor I talked about in my above post.
