Here is a couple videos of the barrel. I think there might be some copper still.

If you want to make sure there isn't anything in the barrel....

I use sweets 7.62 and butchs.

To get ALL the carbon and everything out of the barrel, hit it with some iosso. Look it up. Itll take it down to bare metal. A lot of the cleaning stuff these days is weak. I assume because folks don't follow directions and will tear their stuff up haha. Use the iosso after you have removed as much powder, copper etc as you can. Itll make it like new. use some hopes no9 or a good oil after to prevent rust or anything. hit it with a couple dry patches after that to get the extra out. First few shots may be crazy as itll need a few to get a bit of fouling but try and group them from the very first shot.

        Post back on the results.

Ill put money on that barrel not being shot out as not too many folks will shoot out any rifle much less a 308.

Thanks. I'll check it out. Anyone got a good copper remover?

Hoppes has a good copper specific cleaner that I like and a buddy uses m-pro7.

Didn't really look them up yet. I realized that after I said it.

How do you apply that Iosso? Put it on your brush and scrub it in or just on a patch?

It's actually clean now but I'm seeing what looks like some bad pitting. Should I be worried?

Have you shot any Moly coated bullets?

Those can foul a barrel and moly doesn't always come out easily with a regular brush and bore solvent.

Run a brand new brush through the bore about 10 passes. Wet a couple patches with pure acetone run them back and forth through the bore one time each.

                      Wait 5 minutes.

Run the brush through 10 more times.

Run patches through one at a time until they come out clean.

I am going to agree with you. It looks like pitting and striations on the smooth side of barreling. Savage barrel replacement is nominal cost. I just went through this. My deceased dad 30.06. I battled with replacing barrel or just keeping it. It shoots a 1.5" group consistently, hand loads. Good enough for hog hunts for blinds and tree hunting scenario.
So it comes down to purpose of gun.

The iosso is a cream. Try it before you give up. Use it heavy. Patch or a brush. Back and forth several times. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Repeat.

Molybdenum disulfide also makes sulfuric acid when moisture contacts it.
                            That will really pit steel.

This was the first gun I ever bought so I hat to mess with it especially after doing some research on this particular rifle.

This is a large shank reviewer which meens special ordering a barrel and a min $350. Which has me thinking I'm not far from a new rifle and I don't have to mess with the sentimental value.
