      A 3" shell after it is fired is 3.5" long that is why they will chamber with no problem.

          On a side note, I got 4 boxes of 3.5" shells, #2 shot (minus 4 shells) that I have no need for. Does any one want to trade for some 2.75" or 3" shells?

            You can chamber and fire a 3.5" shell in 3" inch guns. The problem occurs when trying to eject the fired cartridge as it will get hung up and this is from 1st hand experienc. I would not recommend this doing this on a regular basis but if only a couple rounds where fired or even a box I would not worry too much about it.

            If the 3.5" shells where steel shot and the choke state not to shoot steel I'd be worried about that as it can and will cause stress fractures to form at the end of the barrel where the choke bottoms out.

              It was steel shot. I'm not sure what the choke is on the barrel but it's not threaded for a choke tube, if that's what your talking about.
