Help me pick my new rifle

I want a new deer rifle. I need opinions on caliber and brand. I want long range shot capability. I'd like to keep my cost at $1000-1500.
I currently own browning A-bolt SS with boss in both 270 and 300 wsm.
    Thoughts?

Older 70s model Rem model 700 7 mag in good shape with some nice glass would be my vote

Do you reload? If not I like 7mm Rem Mag or even .25-06. If you do then 280AI or 26 Nosler. It's at the upper end of your budget but I would have APR build you a rifle, you won't be disappointed in quality or accuracy!

        I won't be reloading
I'm kinda leaning towards a smaller caliber like the 25-06.

Get a rem 700 action (preferably used, but since you want new, brownells has them), buy a nice rifle cut barrel from lilja, brux, krieger, etc, in 280AI or one of the 6mm/6.5mm cartridges, and slap whatever stock you want on it.

          Or just ask Blake...

When I say new, I meant new to me
              Sounds good, whose Blake?
Perhaps I need to raise my thinking $ wise.

Buy $1000 worth of ammo, last I checked the 300 wsm was a pretty good long range caliber

Very true! That's why I said I "want" a new one.

Haha just giving you a hard time. You will get lots of votes for .25-06 and 7mm-08. Lighter bullets and increased velocity make for good flat shooters but I bet there are better options for the 700-1000 range

I would look hard at a 6.5 Creedmore or a .260. Most all the regular brands are producing shooters nowadays. Add some good glass and you'll be ready for those long shots.

Nothing against the quarter bore but that would be way down the list especially if you don't reload.

If your wanting to 1 up your 300 WSM then go custom build.

And as mentioned, CajunBlake is an excellent resource for getting a great rifle built on a budget. His top suggestions seem to be APR, PacNor & Pete Pieper not necessarily in that order
