    No BSA. No....
BSA is never the answer unless you are asking about the worst made.

For 4 Benjamin's, get a quality scope. You can find a Zeiss 3-9 for that. I have never had a problem picking up a non illuminated reticle while shooting in spot light beam.

Ok lets hear your story on what happened to "your" BSA sweet 17 that you ended up having to buy a new scope.

Is there a better higher priced scope out there Im sure but why not start with a scope that is designed for that round? Both of mine are very clear and hold zero just fine. I just could not see that kind of money on my rim fires but thats just me.

I have never owned one. My brother bought one. It looks worse than a 20 year old Tasco that my grandpa had on his '06. The OP stated he/she had a budget of $400. BSA will never compete with a $400 scope of any brand period. If the OP wishes to buy a $60 scope and get $60 worth of performance, BSA's are GREAT.

          I put a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14 on my 17HMR.

Love it. It is clear, and works great at night with a Kill Light.

Now it looks like they've made the Buckmaster scopes cheaper, and stepped up the ProStaff line. Pretty sure I paid about $300 for the one I have.

If I was buying today, I'd take a long hard look at this one: http://swfa.com/Leupold-3-9x33-VX-2-...pe-P51834.aspx

I've never owned a BSA, but probably would never buy one. I realize they are popular, and there are lots of folks who have had great experiences, however, I just don't trust cheap scopes, whether they're caliber specific or not.

I have the same savage that is pictured above (except threaded for my can) and run the cheapo BSA sweet 17. quite hontesly, it impresses the hell outta me. for a cheap scope, it's DEAD NUTS ON with 20 grain hornady bullets.

              I went with a Leupold VX-2 on my 22 Mag. 3-9 for under $300, 4-12 for under $400.
