I've owned quite a few McM stocks since 1985 when I first ventured into custom rifles. Early on, there were 3 models that were best suited for a hunting rifle: HTG , BDL, and Winchester Marksman. Kelly McMillan and Richard Davis listened to the consumers and introduced new stock models over the years.
Pictured below are just a few to help people make a choice if considering a McM.
Top: McMillan Hunter that is a copy of the Sako 75 Varmint yet inletted for a R700. 75% dark green , 25% white swirl. Palm swell, and Flat bottom to ride a sand bag well and feels great in the hand when shooting. With raised monte carlo and pronounced cheek piece, it has perfect position for cheek when viewing through 30mm or larger objective scopes. At from sling swivel stud area, stock measures 1.900" wide , and is 10 5/8" long from recoil lug to end of stock. Rifle is chambered in 17 Little Nasty
Middle: HTG with adjustable cheek piece. 70% OD green , 15% blacl, and 15% tan swirl. Slight palm swell, and not quite as wide flat bottom (1.765" at sling swivel stud) . Points well with the narrower forend that is more rounded than other 2 stocks. Monte carlo type stock with no cheek piece, can be ordered normal or adjustable. Stock measures 10 5/8" long from recoil lug to end of stock. Chambered in 300/221
Bottom: Remington Varminter black pebble paint textured finish. More of a compact stock that measures 1.965" at sling swivel stud, and is 9 3/4" from recoil lug to end of stock. Palm swell with wide forend , as stock feels very good. Would be ideal for a 22" or shorter barrel.
My favorite is the McMillan Hunter (top dark green stock)
