    Kahr Arms question

I bought my wife a PM9 for her to carry. I went to the range last week and had nothing but problems with it. The instructions say that you should use the slide release to chamber the first round and to not pull it back with your hand and let it slide forward (even though all my other pistols you can do it that way) so I followed the printed instructions. Well that was a failure. The slide does not go all the way forward and falls out of battery. I tap the back of the slide and it shuts. I fire the round in the chamber and it ejects and tryes to load another round that is out of battery again. I try to clear the round by removing the magazine and pulling the slide back but the round is jammed pretty good in the chamber. With few very hard pulls it finally ejects the round. The brass just below the bullet is clearly damaged and the bullet is mared. I took it to the range staff at my job who noticed the same thing. They said the chamber appears to not be long enough causing the crimping of the brass and they said the chamber needs to be reamed to elongate it. So the questions is has anyone else had problems with Kahr pistols or did I just get the ocassional dud?

Wow, that stinks. Regarding the slide lock release for chambering... They probably don't want to deal with complaints about issues caused by people who ride the slide.

Kahr's have a very long break in period and an above average percentage of problems early on. Once broken in they are great guns (I carry one regularly)

If it were mine I would break it down and clean every part and then lube the heck out of it and T mean wet and then go shoot 200-300 rounds through it. If problems persist then contact Kahr and if you haven't fired this many rounds Kahr will send you back to the range anyway

        I currently have 3 (380, 9mm & 45) and they all have been 100% trouble free.

          Kahr Arms question

I had a PM9 as a carry gun. Loves it, loved the way it felt, carried and shot. Only problem was it would not always feed properly and hang up. Can't carry if not a reliable gun. I had about 500 rounds and it still did not function properly. I was told the feed ramp needed polishing. I could not trust it so I sold it.

Was the ammo New factory loaded ammo or reloads? I ask because I had 9mm with a tight chamber and I didn't know this until I bought a 1000 round can of commercial reloads at the gun show. The reloads had a slight swell in the cases and would not go into battery. They worked fine in my buddies pistol so I gave him the ammo.

Had a pm40 with similar issues. Went back to Kahr 3 times all on their dime. I finally sent it back with a letter stating that I just wanted my money back because I couldn't trust my life with a gun that was so horribly unreliable. They kept it for a while and sent it back with a letter of apology and an explanation that the entire gun except the frame had been replaced. Trigger, barrel, slide, springs, everything. It ran perfectly after that. 100% reliable and finally felt like I got what I spent my money on.

I have a CW40 and CW9, they are both awesome lil guns. Want them to work? Buy some leather work gloves, put them on, lube the heck out of the Khar, rack it 500-600 times...problem solved.

Khars are very tight, loosen them up and they work great.

Also, make sure you take the mag out before racking them 5-600 times tho. It also helps to have a good tv show on.

I have a P9 that is a great carry gun. As others have said it does have a longer break in period than some other guns out there. Only round my gun doesn't like to feed is Remington Golden Saber, bullets weren't seated far enough down in the casing. I did polish the feed ramp as a precaution when I bought it.

These were factory loads that we use at work. Not the garbage cheap stuff.

I have always heard that there is a large break in period which I am OK with but 500 rounds takes a long time when you have to fire them one at a time because of the loading issue. I called Kahr and there customer service seemed very put off by my call. I am sending it back to the facroty. I can't give my wife a gun to defend herself if I would carry it at work because I know it reliable.

This. Never had a problem with mine,. Carry it daily. I also polished the feed ramp. Go to their forum, a lot of great info.

Hmm, learned a lot from this thread I didn't know. I know I won't be buying a Khar anytime soon. I don't have time or want to spend the money to run 500 rounds thru a gun before it is "broken in". There are too many other reliable pistols out there that are reliable straight from the factory to be buy one that you have to break in. I wonder why Khar hasn't fixed this issue?? Surely they realize they are losing sales to Glock or Colt or Kimber?? Puzzling
