Yes there's flutes on top. Will they usually take the blame and fork out the cash for it to be done?

if he indexed the threading off the bore centerline there is a chance the threading can appear "off-center"
I had a smith recently thread one of my custom guns for a suppressor that had a Kreiger barrel and the threading was slightly off center to the outside of the barrel, but was true to the bore. Have him test fire it when you pick it up, but it's probably not an issue and is more on the barrel quality than the GS's quality

Sucks but hes doing everything he can to make it right at this point. Hopefully its just a gun you bought and not a hand me down from family or gift etc... make new memories with this one and find a new smith although he has my respect for buying you a new gun.
