    What caliber?

About to order a defiance rebel action to build a varmint/prairie dog rifle. Thinking about the 204, 223wssm and 220swift. Any others to consider?

22-250 great round and easy to find in most places.

Aren't you going to build your .950 JDJ first? I vote for it

Also look at the .224 TTH with the calibers listed. It will make a red puff out of a dog. :-)

204 = lowest powder consumption, lowest recoil, lowest heat generation, flattest trajectory of the 3. All GOOD things in a PD rig.
22-250 = work horse no doubt. Easy to make shoot. I've killed 2 tubes on mine so far shooting PD's. Hope I get the chance to kill a couple more. I spend more time waiting on it to cool than I do shooting it.
220 Swift = Yep, it's speed is awesome. Finding brass for it is not awesome. Finding GOOD brass for it is even less awesome. Can be a finicky round for sure.

I was going to but I found a good deal on a used rocket launcher so I might go that route instead

OP's buying a $1200 action for the purpose of optimum precision , 1 hole groups

if shooting prairie dogs, single shot , solid bottom actions are ideal and the preferred choice by many

repeaters are nice for song dogs but not mandatory

I hunt deer, pigs, coyotes, and crows with single shot, benchrest actions and do not feel handicapped in anyway

it all depends on what the OP feels most comfortable with , that's the beauty of building a custom rifle

Have both single shot BAT 3 lug rifles and trued Rem 700's with oversized ptg bolts etc. In my experience anything on the BR case will not make a good repeater. Song dogs are considered varmints by many and a repeater does make a better coyote gun than a single shot, unless you can get doubles to line up and stand still for you? The same can be said for a hot dog town you would be giving up quite a few dogs in our company, BR cased repeaters will not feed as well as many other one hole cartridges. BR brass can also be expensive and will need to be worked. This can be tough especially if you need several hundred rounds for a two day shoot. Doesn't look like the op reloads based on his choices. In this case a 20 practical or straight .223 might be a better choice for the op. BTW I love my single shot 6mmbr

I do reload and I think I want to stick with a repeater on this rifle. A 6mm BR with a single shot defiance action is interesting. But that's another day
