There's many many good choice listed above.
I don't know much about the Ruger American but it seems to have a really good following in it's price point. Were it me, I'd get the Tikka in what every cal floats your boat.
For the truck, I have a 788 in 243 or my Marlin in 45-70. The Marlin is good for 200 yards and was proven at 210 last year but falls apart very quickly from there.

I have a Kimber Montana in .338 Federal. It is very lightweight and I put a Leopold 2-8 x 36 on top. Total package is less than 7 pounds I believe.
I believe that the stock design is superior to the Tikka and it doesn't kick violently in this heavier caliber. Of course you could pick a smaller caliber and be no issue at all.

Pretty much down to the Remington Model 7. Was thinking a 223 new but the twist rate is 1:12. Doesn't seem like it would do good with the heavier bullets. Found a used 7-08 with the old Remingnton trigger ,2 stocks ,and leupold bases/rings for about 550 shipped to my dealer. Having the old trigger is a plus because I can have it worked to my liking not having to throw away the x mark trash trigger. Now I need to decide on using my 3-9 Redfield or buying a 4x or 2-7x scope.
