Looking for a lightweight rifle.

Wanting a dual purpose rifle. Truck/light weight walking gun. Spot I'm going to hunt this year is kind of off the beaten path. Actually have to cross a creek to get to it. I'm debating on that 18 inch barrel Ruger American, a savage, or something old like a Rem 788. Open to suggestions for what I should pick plus caliber. Would love if I could find a 6mm in something.

Id say tikka too, but the ruger would make a better truck gun at half the price if something happens to it.

I bought a Savage 11 Nikon package for that type deal. i needed a drag thru the thick stuff and ride in the ATV/UTV/truck gun. AS far as cartridge I like the 7-08 but hard to beat the 308 heavier slower bullet for hunting brush and grass.
