    Ruger American in a Boyds!

I finally got a chance to get my wife's RAR out of one of the plastic stock and into a Boyds Laminate Stock! Gunkoted stainless grey. Looks pretty good! We had a lot of problems getting it installed correctly, and we wound up glass bedding it with the Vblock pillar system. Also the magazine catch didn't match up. I'm anxious to see how it shoots! For being an economy gun they certainly have built a great reputation for accuracy.

Has anyone ever had issues with Boyds stocks not matching up well?

Been eyeballing one for mine but was a little hesitant seeing what it says on their site about installing the v blocks and all. Also curious about what weight it adds? For a public land gun I'm unsure about adding anymore weight

It's definitely heavier. In fact it's one of my heavier rifles now.

I put my RAR in a Boyd's. It did require a small amount of fitting but nothing too difficult.

I have installed several of these at the shop. The good - They greatly improve the balance and feel of the rifle. And I think they certainly look better and are more rigid than the tupperware that comes from Ruger. The bad - Everyone has had inletting issues ranging from minor annoyance to a few choice words being spoken. I do like the finished result and feel it's a worthwhile upgrade for the Americans.

Balanced is by far a better word than heavier. It's good weight on this rifle. Can't wait to see how it shoots for me.

I have always had good luck added Boyd's stocks to ours. Sorry about the problems, but the gun looks great now! I bet it shoots great too.

Well i think i may still do it even if it's a bit more weight. Also about to buy a timney trigger for the American.

Let me know how the timney works. I'm on the fence about it. I'm going to see if I can get some good DIY research in and see if I can get it close enough without having to drop the cash.

Might still be a bit before i buy but definitely going to happen. I dont mind the weight on mine though would like lighter. Mine has some set during the squeeze that drives me nuts, so that's what i want to get rid of

Put a Boyd's prairie hunter on my Remington model 7. Mated up perfectly. No issues whatsoever.

I bought a RAR in 308 the other day and was looking at the boyds stocks too and have a question?????
Does the mag just pop in? Or do you buy some bottom metal for it like trigger guard and such?.
How does that work is there a kit u buy to convert it to the Boyds?
If so where can u buy one? I have looked all over the Web but no luck..........
any help on this would be greatly appreciated

                          Thanks
                          Lynn

Mine came with a metal tab thing that is supposed to be the new magazine catch. It didn't quite work though the way that wanted it to. We were able to get it working, but theres a slight gap down there. But to answer your question the boyds stock came with everything

The new stock comes with everything needed for the Ruger American. Just make sure that when you are ordering that you select the right stock for your rifle.
