I have a FN SCAR 17S that has been put through its paces and I am extremely happy with its performance. The only issue I had with it is the factory trigger, which I replaced and couldn't be more happy with. In my opinion, gas piston is the only way to go, especially if you shoot suppressed. A gas piston gun runs much cleaner than a traditional gas system and it helps with reliability issues.

I would say that is debatable, but for another discussion.
DPMS actually makes a decent 308 platform AR for the price.
After that and maybe CMMG the price goes up A LOT.
I will eventually own an LMT MWS with an extra 260 barrel.
The Wilson that Artos posted looks pretty good.
And them there's the LWRC Reaper.
The LMT, Wilson and the LWRC are all going to be well north of $2k.
Sig and Ruger are making 308 ARs as well but I don't know as much about them.
What I do know is that there are are few light weight 308 ARs.
You might look at the M&P 10 as well.

you might look into the Ruger sr762. its a 2 stage piston operated system so its supposed to keep recoil to a minimum as well as keep the chamber clean. add in the fact that it has a nickel plated BCG and its pretty well maintenance free for around 1000 rounds. comes with flip up sights and will accept most ar15 accessories.
im sure most of the rifles on the market will satisfy

What is the weight of the LMT?? The Wilson is really the only one I know of that focused on getting the weight down. The one LaRue I got to fondle seemed light compared to dpms, but it still states it is in the 9lb range on the stats. That 7.7lb Wilson seems like the ticket for the AR-10 if weight is a priority.
CaptRyan...I too would rather own a SCAR over an AR-10 if I had to pick. Awesome gun!! I think it weighs in right at 8lbs.
Like Mike stated gas vs piston is for another subject...you cannot state one is more reliable.

If you disagree with me, name a modern 308 AR that is prone to jamming or fouling, requires heavy maintenance, has a short life, or not resilient. There aren't none.

The .308 Wilson Combat I'm considering: The rigid but lightweight BILLet-AR receiver allows us to build the lightest .308 frame AR on the market with the 7.7 pound Tactical Lightweight Model that has a lightweight 14.7" barrel and pinned muzzle device as standard.Last edited by Chad C; 10-23-2014, 03:38 PM.
