I understand what you are saying but I have a hard time believing that rubber stopper would make a good enough seal to keep the fluid between it and the bullet when he whacked on it. Maybe once but with repeated use...

The right rubber compound would achieve this easily. Compresses enough to fill the rifling and high enough durometer to last. Even if it only lasted 2 rounds, any gunsmith could probably turn another rubber tip on the lathe and replace it.

      Sound physics.

      Great outcome.

          Hey Coach,
Not being "Stupid" but asking a serious question. Isnt a Thompson Center a rifle that can be made into a pistol? I thought everything was fine if its a "rifle" or a "pistol" but not a rifle with a pistol (or any sub16") barrel. You can have a pistol grip on a 16"+ barrel but not the other way around without a stamp, correct? I really want to know cause I actually saw this argument the other day and it got me thinking and wondering about the shotguns with pistol grips and the TC guns.

Follow this link - it will open a PDF from the ATF

            The gist -
BATFE Ruling 2011-4 – Pistol to a Rifle and back to a Pistol
Today, at the NFATCA Firearm Importer, Exporter and Manufacturer Conference, the BATFE announced that Acting Director Melson issued Ruling 2011-4, regarding whether a pistol can be converted to a rifle and then back to a pistol, without having to register the firearm as a short-barreled rifle. While the Ruling has not yet been published,ATF Deputy Chief Steve Albro stated that the Ruling holds that a pistol may be converted to a Title I rifle (non-SBR) and back to a pistol without having to register the firearm as a Short-Barreled Rifle under the NFA. However, if the firearm starts life as a rifle, the Ruling further holds, that it cannot be converted to a pistol without registering it as a Short-Barreled Rifle under the NFA. As soon as the Ruling is posted, I will update this posting with a copy and any additional holdings.

Oh and it's only >16 for a rifle; a smoothbore is >18". For a rifle, the barrel has to be 16+" and a total length on 26" to be considered a long gun. Now that's not to say a "pistol" can't have a barrel over 16", but to be considered a long gun it's barrel must be >16" and total length of >26" no matter if it has a pistol grip on not. Just better not put a shoulder stock on a rifle barrel <16" or shotgun barrel <18" w/o correct paperwork.

Interesting. Sorry I wasn't thinking, yes I knew a shotty had to be 18" an rifle 16". Thanks for the info

Bro, hope it comes out OK.
If your using a reloading tray, eyeball them before sticking a bullet in.

The way TC gets around the pistol barrels that chamber a .410 is they have rifling so technically it is not a "smoothbore" and therefore legal to own w/o a tax stamp.

And they are fun to shoot, but that's really about it... I have patterned both 10" & 14" barrels and neither provide much after about 15 to 20 yards. But with that said, I have killed turkeys using #4's out of both, so they can effectively take game if you make sure shots are within a relatively short distance.
