got a serious problem. squib load... bullet lodged in barrel

so i was out with my dad today shooting in rifles. apparently one of my 308 hand loads didn't get powder. i have a bullet lodged approximately 1.5 inches inside the barrel!

i've never had this happen. a resident at the range said he could get it out, but that didn't work. he had a brass rod and hit it from the buisness end of the barrel and i think it mushroomed the bullet in the barrel.

local gunsmith wants 267$ to get this out of a 350$ gun.

either i scrap the rifle, or i get this out myself.

i have soaked it in penetrating oil for 2 hrs now, and it still won't budge from either end with a brass rod, and 3 lb hammer.

    any ideas?

heat the area where the round is lodged....then attempt to push it from the "business end" of the rifle. Also, spray some lubricant in from both ends. Will help absorb around the bullet when heated.

It may be to tight now. But one way is to load a round without a bullet. Just powder and primer. Tie the gun off and use a trigger on the string. Get behind some cover and pull. Either the action will blow or the bullet will go out the barrel. I'd try a case of Trail Boss powder if you have some. Make sure you get all the oil out of the chamber first.

That's darn good advice. The extra space will absorb a little of the pressure and soften the explosion a bit. Should work. if its doesn't, you are about to ruin a 350 dollar gun anyway.

ya know, i honestly thought about trying to shoot it out using a blank and trailboss. hell, i even loaded some up, but i'm too chicken to do it!

i would do it in a heartbeat if i hadn't hammered on the front of the bullet. i'm 100% sure the bullet is all mushroomed in the barrel now. you think it would still be worth a shot trying it with a blank and a couple grains of trailboss??

I had this happen to a 45-70 3 times. The dowel rod works or a steel rod wrapped in electrical tape.

If you want to ruin a gun then go ahead, the ONLY way to remove it is to drive it out. It cant mushroom too much to drive out. If you can turn a brass rod to the land diameter then you can drive it out that's what a gunsmith will do. If not then you have a rebarreling project. No way would I try to shoot it out all you have done is created a bomb.

I can get it out in about 15 mins for a 12 pack. I'll even give you the tool I make to do it so you can do it yourself next time

If you're close to san Angelo I'd give you more than a twelve pack to fix it!!!
