have a rem 700 aac-sd .308 with a 20" 1:10" twist barrel. It sits on a aics chassis and has really enjoyed 43.2 gr varget and 44.2 varget along with win 760 and rl-15 all with federal primers, lapua brass, and 175gr sierra matchkings...I spent countless shooting sessions finding these loads and was hoping y'all could help me get close with a hunting load. I have 180gr noslers and 168 Berger vlds that I was able to find at our small town reloading shop. Where should I head when looking for a hunting load I can shoot out as far as I accurately and ethically can

The 168 AMax is suppose to be a really good hunting round. It has good fragmentation and penetration.
It works with RL15. Not sure about Varget. I can send you some of them if you like.
In my '06, I've been using 168 TSX. But I'm about out of them and have some 150 TTSX I'm going to load up eventually. I've also got some 130 TTSX that I've been meaning to try. Again, I can send you a few if you want to try them.
Last, I've got some 220 grain Hornady round nose if you want to kick it old school. Not the best long range range and a little big for a .308 case but......

Barry try this at your own risk because it is a heavily compressed load.
Lapua brass trimmed to 2.005"
50 grains RL17
Federal GM215M primers
175 Berger VLD Hunting
COAL 2.870"
I'm getting an average velocity of 2809fps with a 20" 5R Milspec Remington 700 through my YHM can.
Well under an inch at 200.

I hear you…. I can shoot this load out to 1400yds and have done so on a few occasions when I didn't have a cross wind so I like how it shoots. But the guys I goof around with tell me the matchkings aren't good hunting rounds and I could do better. I don't know when the last time was that I shot a deer with a gun but I would at least like to know I had some accurate loads if any need arises

Yep SMK is definitely not a hunting round. I'd give the Bergers a look.

The Berger is made specifically as a hunting bullet as long as you don't buy their match rounds.
The SMK is NOT designed to expand like a hunting bullet is.
