This is great info. What defense ammo do yall recommend?

As stated above GOLD DOT is my personal recommendation, its what I carry in my carry gun. Hornady TAP is another decent all around defense round. Hollow point around 115 gr or a little more would be ideal.

You shouldn't get blasted too bad, it appears that you may be new to this.

Those rounds you bought are nothing but a gimmick. I'm sorry you spent $35 on them especially since you can get 50 rounds of Federal HST or Gold Dots for under $30.

Those two mentioned are my go to rounds.

Ive shot the frangible libety's out of a 40 S&W as far as frangibles go they were ok.

If you dont have to shoot frangibles (I do). Get a better hollow point.

I prefer the Buffalo Bore +P+ ammo, regardless of bullet type. I want all the power I can get for a self defense round, and that one gets up into the .357 range. Check their web site.

I've never used Gold Dot (I certainly never shot anybody with it!), but I know it's popular with law enforcement.

Just curious why? All the speed in the world do you no good of the bullet doesn't perform as needed.

The bullet is what does the damage. I'll take a lower recoil, reliably expanding and deep penetrating bullet any day over one that has more recoil, more muzzle blast and potentially more muzzle flash.

Gold dots and HSTs perform beautifully at "standard" velocities.

Correct. We must carry frangible ammunition... I have shot a ton of it over the past few years trying to find one I'd stake my like on... Not all of them do as they are supposed to. If it were just me I'd carry gold dots or something similar.

Now the guy in charge that does the random ammo checks is me, so I make sure I follow the rules. LOL.

On the weekend I slap in a different mag.

                      Yep.

I use Gold Dots and Federal HST's in my .40's. My 9mm's really like the Winchester Ranger T ammo (147 grain, not the +P stuff) as well.

I generally "like" Hornady ammo, although it isn't my favorite. But I do have to say that none of my pistols have liked the TAP ammo I've used in them. I got away from it quickly.

May look at Hornady Critical Defense too.
