    Did I mess up?

I bought civil defense ammo for my Ruger 9mm. The practice rounds I shoot are 9mm luger and the civil defense ammo is 9mm +P. They look exactly the same by eye but I'm afraid they aren't. And I bought them at academy and cant return them if they are wrong. ????????

If your pistol is rated for +p fire away.

On a related note. 50 grain lead free? Use those things for your new practice rounds

The owners manual should say if your gun is rated for P+.

Ruger forum says that the Ruger P95 will handle any 9x19 NATO round. +P and +P+. Thanks! I just freaked out and thought I wasted 35 bucks.

Should be fine in modern firearms. It is the old ones you have to worry about.

I got Liberty Ammunition. Seemed good by reading the box. Hopefully I never have to use it for what its meant for. I will have to look for gold dot

They always do. Sorry chris but it's a very poor performer. The high velocity and subsequent energy bump sucked you in. You'd be much better served by a traditional bonded jhp.

                              Yep.

And as far as +P, many manuals advise that +P loads should not be used. The P238 manual says this, but the truth is that large amounts of +P firing can cause excessive wear on the gun. It doesn't mean the first time you fire one it'll blow your hand off. The thing to do is use regular ammo for practice, and the +P or +P+ ammo for self defense. Chances are you'll never use it, and if you ever do, it'll most likely just be 2 or 3 rounds.

In my SIG 2022 9mm, I keep it loaded as a home defense gun - the nightstand, carrying around our farm - with Buffalo Bore +P+ Penetrators. These will blow a half inch hole through the skull of anything on this continent. They're not advised in areas where overpenetration might be a concern, obviously.
