    Scope

[Q UOTE=Mike D;8838472]I highly disagree on a couple of things here.

First a Vortex Viper is nowhere the same quality glass as the Zeiss. Warranty is probably better on the Vortex. If you'd like to know why I feel that way PM me and I'll be glad to discuss why from personal experience.

Secondly the VX-2 line of scopes is not Leupold's budget line of scopes, far from it. I guess in the Leupold branded products the Rifleman series or VX-1 would be their budget line.

But Redfield is truly their budget line. There is a HUGE difference in quality between a Tasco, Barska, et al. And the VX-2 or even VX-1 line.

And I'll put Leupold service and warranty on par with anyone on the market. And their custom shop is just awesome.[/QUOTE]

Agreed. Personally I would forget all 4 and go with the Meopta but you didn't ask for that, so I would recommend the zeiss conquest.

To me, the vortex seems to have more inner glare when the sun hits it. But that's just my opinion.

And finally, when in doubt, refer to Mike D.

I have owned all the above and I would go...

          conquest
          vortex
          leupold
          terra

But IMO the most overlooked scope out there is the bushnell elite 6500. You can find demos in the $550 range at swfa's samplelist.

Got a Zeiss last year. Couldn't be happier. Conquest gets my vote. Best low light performance out of the ones I was looking at.

Your list shows you just started looking...

What's your budget? Not what is it for. You obviously want a mid range zoom scope. 4.5-14.. and for some reason you want a 40 mm over a 50 mm objective.

Here's the list I'd be looking at in that range.. however your budget may change my mind.

Zeiss Conquest or the new Terra
                  Leupold VX3 4.5-14x

I personally like the 50mm objective. So I would not recommend the 40..

Zeiss conquest. I even put it over the vx-3. I own both. Check sale prices at redhawkrifles for conquests and SWFA for HD5 Conquests

the only reason id go zeis is for the 50 mm objective if those were my choices. personally all my rifles wear a vx3. they bump around in a truck for 6 months and never had a problem staying zerod in.
